    Sheltie lifespan

Our family pup, Brodie, was a couple of weeks shy of his 15th birthday when we put him down. He was well bred, his mother was a champion. He had pretty bad teeth though, which was definitely due to our ignorance and "negligence" as pet owners :/ He developed a cough and we took him to the vet...

Who uses stuffed "toys" with your furkids?

Beau isn't allowed toys with stuffing anymore. It's one thing if he just rips them apart but he can't help but swallow all the little pieces (and then throw them up a day later, not good!) The stuffing less toys are great for him, I just have to watch for when he manages to pull the squeakers...

    Oh, the hair!

Oh, yes by clumps... I mean more like "tufts"? It definitely wasn't tangled, the only place my old Sheltie would tangle was behind his ears. As for the food, I'm not an expert by far but every single one of the dogs I've had (& there have been a fair few) have been on Performatrin. My old...

    Oh, the hair!

Thank you everyone for the responses! My Sheltie growing up, I remember my parents used to brush and vacuum (we had a dog brush attachment)him every so often but he definitely had little fur clumps at certain times of the year. I think the lack of regular brushing makes sense for that though...

    Good ideas for puppy toys

Beau loves anything he can put in his mouth! Stuffed toys only last if they don't have any hard parts he can chew at & I cut the labels off because he tends to get fixated on one spot of a toy and chew, chew and chew at it. He likes his Kong a lot but at night he is up chewing on his Nylabone...

    Oh, the hair!

Hi there, So I have a wonderful 8 1/2 month old Sheltie boy, Beau. I've had Shelties in the past, but Beau is not quite like any of the ones I've been around. He is on the big side (probably 21 1/2 inches or slightly more at this point, at the shoulders), which I like about him (: I'm a...

    Big Boy?

I call him a Collie haha, his parents are Shelties though ^^ Looking at group pictures of his littermates he looks to be the biggest and his head was much bigger than the rest of the pups as well. I love that he is big, I like bigger dogs but my Mother would never had agreed to a larger breed...

    Big Boy?

Thought I would update on Beau for fun (: Yesterday he turned 6 months old and went to the vet to be neutered. He weighed in at 30lbs! I can't get him to stand still long enough to measure, but when he walks past the coffee table his shoulders are about an inch higher. So that would put...

    Big Boy?

I have to say I agree with the vet on cutting his food down, I figured he wasn't fat because I can still feel his ribs easily (compared to my yorkie who I am currently trying to get weight off of, you have to use more pressure to find his). Though really looking at him, he seems to carry his...

    Big Boy?

Just an update after seeing the vet today, he is actually 7.8 kg (so 17lbs :eek2:) The vet said to cut down his food, so I guess he is a bit overweight :o I also finally found a measuring tape, so he is: 11 weeks, 3 days old 17 lbs & 12 inches at the shoulders.

    Big Boy?

I got Beau at 8 weeks and his breeder said he was 8lbs at 7 weeks. Now he is just over 11 weeks but he weighs close to 15lbs... He isn't fat! I can feel his ribs without pushing, he is just really solid with long legs. I'm hoping he is just growing really fast and will slow down soon, my Mom...

    Blue-Eyed Poll

Beau appears to be sable but the upper left side of his left eye is blue, he also has a blue fleck in his right eye but it isn't very noticeable. Does his blue eye mean he is a merle? It's hard to tell from the photos but he has silvery hairs on his ears and compared to his 7 litter mates he...
