    Happy Halloween!

Very cool. I'm wondering it people dress up their dogs at all? My daughter took Russell to the pet store last night and he came back dressed as a taco.

    Dealing with Halloween

This will be Russell's first Halloween with us so hadn't given much thought to this. At the same time, we've had a single trick or treater the last three years. So it probably won't be a huge issue for us.

    Behavior changing

You know, barking isn't really an issue for me. I mean, I know Sheltie's are known as barkers but Russell doesn't do much of that in the house. When he wants attention he usually just walks over and puts his head on my lap and looks at me with those brown eyes. He spends part of his time...

Does anyone else's Sheltie eat their halloween pumpkins?

My sheltie will eat almost anything.

    Behavior changing

Thanks for asking. I suppose what I will say is that there has been steady improvement. I'm just so spoiled by my older dog. I can walk out without a leash to get the mail and she's a perfect citizen. Doesn't get distracted, comes back, no issues. Russell can do that successfully most of...

    Yuck - Fleas!!! Help!!!

We used to use frontline but it did not work so well so we switched to Comfortis. It kills flea infestations within hours and then works for 30 days. It's a pill so can be difficult to administer for finicky dogs but it's worked very well for us.

    Happy birthday Russell!

So my little man turned a year old today. The time really flies doesn't it? Apologies for not having any pics or videos. I'll see what I can put up later tonight.

    Behavior changing

Thanks for the advice. I actually starting falling back on the look at me command a couple of days ago so looks like my instincts are on track. I never used to carry treats with me but have the last few days. Also carrying around my clicker (which I had only used sparingly) to get his...

    Behavior changing

So my pup Russell is now a little over five months old. In the past several weeks, I have noticed some unwanted behavioral changes. Nothing too too serious but it includes wanting to chase cars (most of the time) and barking at other dogs (all while on a leash) on walks. Of course, he...

Where do you draw the line?

Well, my dogs don't go on any furniture. Doesn't seem to be any kind of problem. They have their own beds and mostly lounge around the house.

    Do your dogs sleep in?

Does my dog sleep in? I wish. Russell is still a puppy but I usually get up between 4:30 and 5 to take him out each morning.

    Size and weight?

So as some of you may know, I recently welcomed a sheltie to our home. He just turned 17 weeks so he still has a ways to go before he matures but I have started wondering about what he will look like when he grows up. Based on the dimensions, it looks like he should grow to between 13-16...

    Brand new sheltie owner

Thanks. And yes, Russell and Dakota will wage a war of wills for years to come. Both are completely fearless. Darla is probably the scardiest of the bunch. She's super sweet but as you can see, but she prefers peace and harmony. She was also severely impacted by the loss of her bestie Rondo...

    Brand new sheltie owner

You're right about that. Russell is positively fearless. Nothing fazes him. If we can get through the puppy stage without Darla and Dakota conspiring to kill him for annoying the heck out of them I think we'll be good.

    Brand new sheltie owner

So my wife finally got around to putting away the tree when a fight broke out over a bag. Of course, the cat has no fear whatsoever of Russell and can probably take on both dogs at once. Note: no animals were harmed in the making of this video.
