    Skin funk...allergies or infection?

I seldom bath Hunter. I brush him often though. I only bath him when his fur seems oily. If this is still a problem after a bath, I would visit the vet. My previous Sheltie had trouble with his skin. The vet took a skin scraping and found out he had staph on his skin. It was large dry red...

To Vaccine or not Vaccine, that is the question

Vacinate I give Hunter vaccinations every 3yrs and have done this for years. I don't have to worry about having to kennel him because I WILL NOT. We had a very bad experience with a kennel. Hunter either comes with me or a family member takes him. He does not go to dog parks or associates with...

How did you find SN and how do you feel about it?

I stumbled on this web sight and am thankful I found it. The people on this sight are very helpful and friendly. The sight I had been on before dismantled and I do miss that one. It was very playful and fun. I did not learn the things I have on this sight though.

    Amazing dog senses

Senses They are very sensitive. Hunter would know my car from a block away. He also knows when a dog is walking 1/2 block from the house. When the pressure changes with the weather, he is very restless. They have a sense we do not have.

    Salt Life??

I would give her a rinse of warm water every time she got into the water. I would not take a chance on drying the coat or any skin problems it may cause. Your vet may have a shampoo or rinse to help remove the salt water. Good Luck!

    Feeding Enough??

Feeding Some pups are just food motivated. I had one Sheltie that had a stomach of iron and would eat anything and everything. My little old man now is so under weight. He always has been thin but I can not get him to put any weight on. Right now, he is only 15lbs. and 12yrs. old. At his ideal...

Thyroid questions: Senior Sheltie w/ multiple health issues

Sheltie's thyroid levels are to run higher than other breeds. A 3 1/2 to 4 is not unusual for a Sheltie. I am sorry you are experiencing this difficult things with you baby. Hunter developed dry skin and seizures with a low thyroid but no other problems. I would find me a very good specialist. I...

    Senior acting strange

:confused2:My Sheltie is 12yrs. and has started to act strange. He is elderly and has devolved cataracts. The vet thought this may be his issue but he can still spot the little gopher in the open field. Two years ago, I moved in with my elderly Mother to care for her. Lately, she has been in and...
