Olive is teaching the cat recall...

I've seen bunny agility. Hope this link works. http://inotternews.blogspot.com/2011/05/bunny-high-jumps.html but cats are way smarter.

How Do You Deal With This Senestive Nature

Dogs that were never properly socialized are often fearful of anything loud or sudden. It takes them a long time to become familiar and trusting with new people. It's just going to take a while. There are a lot of threads on this site about rescue dogs people have worked on for a year or more...

Update on cats with new puppy :)

My cat taunts the dog by lying in the middle of the dog's bed too. When it's time for bed, the cat races up the stairs, claims the center of the German Shepherd's bed and stays there until I pick him up. The cat sleeps in the big bed with me but he can't resists showing the dogs who's boss.

Is a sheltie right for us?

I've never known a sheltie that wasn't a dedicated barker. If you live in an apartment, your neighbors would be upset. When you are home, it isn't usually a problem because a word from you will silence the dog. Grooming is actually much easier with collies and shelties than with many other...

    Alternative Arthritis Treatment

I really thought that the homeopathic treatments and potions were a scam. Then I tried one of the homeopathic medicines for my border collie and changed my mind. I've also talked to a lot of people who have been helped by non conventional treatments. Now that I have a more open mind, I find...

    Stuffed Kongs

Laughing, that is true, dogs aren't real concerned with hygiene. I do need some small brushes for cleaning antique bottles so I appreciate the tip about looking in the baby dept at Walmart. I'm going to look at the Wobbler. Something different to change up the routine. I'll check out Pet...

    liver treat recipe ?

Two of my dogs are allergic to grains but I would like to make some homemade treats. Usually flour or cornmeal is used with the liver. I was thinking of just nuking strips of liver until it got dry and hard. I haven't tried it so it might not work.

    Stuffed Kongs

I don't think I've ever seen a brush small enough to get inside a Kong. Where did you find one? That Wobbler looks interesting. So far I have only the black Kongs that can be used for the GSD's and the sheltie. I don't know if my big dogs would destroy a red Kong or not.

    Stuffed Kongs

Thank you both for the ideas. Pumpkin and yogurt will probably be easier to clean out of the Kong than peanut butter or cream cheese which are oilier and don't dissolve easily. I'll try the freezing too. That should keep them busy for a while.

    Stuffed Kongs

We have several Kongs. I usually fill them with kibble and let the dog push them around while pieces of kibble fall out. This doesn't entertain the dog for long because the food comes out quickly. I see other people filling the Kongs with peanut butter and cream cheese, but how do you get it...

    Two questions

A slicker brush is made up of close spaced wires. A deshedder could be anything from a undercoat rate to a Furminator. Everybody has their favorite tools. I like a good quality undercoat rake, I have three different shapes. The Furminator works better on my GSD than the sheltie. I like a...

Thank you for the tip. I tried the 'remember me' box and it seems to be working.

    New Tick Bourne Disease

There are several tick diseases. My border collie had anaplasmosis. It's nasty but treatable. The vets here test for a panel of related tick diseases. Perhaps this new disease you mention doesn't affect dogs.

    Cats & Sheltie's?

It has been my experience that adult collies and shelties pretty much ignore the cats. Puppies want to play which will frighten the cats until they realize that batting the puppy on the nose will earn the cat lots of respect points. If the cats are very afraid and run from the dog, of course...
