    Small grey spots on nostril

Hi I've just noticed a few tiny greyish spots on my sheltie's nostril. One of them is slightly raised. This is definitely not a new condition in the past week or so - we've just had new grass laid down so I'm wondering if this could be an allergic reaction? Has anyone had any...

    Acquired heart murmur

Miles just came back from his annual check up (he is 15 months). The vet noticed a very soft (grade 1) heart murmur which wasn't there before. I'm taking him to get an ultra-sound but just wanted to know if anyone has had experience with this? He doesn't have any other symptoms at the...

    Help with barking training...

Hi all Im sure this has been discussed before - but unfortunately i couldn't find the search function... My Sheltie is now just over 1 years old. He's becoming more and more vocal and willing to bark at anything. He's also barking quite aggressively for about a couple of minutes at...

    a new addition?

Hi all My desexed boy Miles is now just over a year old. I'm considering buying him a friend... I've found this cute little girl that's about the same size as him (he's tiny). I'm just concerned that he's too naughty around the puppy and will traumatise her. He has shown some tendency...

    Can you vacuum a sheltie?

Miles was having the same problem (we're in Sydney) and I was mad with his fur on all of my clothes! I tried vacumming him with a hand-held but he just attacked the vacumm, thinking it was a tug toy. I took him to a professional groomer today who was able to trim his under-coat. So even...

    What do you feed

Miles has been eating Royal Canin kibble (on recommendation of the vet) and he seems to like it. On top of that, he gets home-cooked food (high-grade chicken, lamb and veggies) with the occasional raw bone. But i'm thinking about swithcing to Eagle Pack dry food...which seems to be one of...

    Weight question

I'm also starting to realise how hard it is to get a sheltie's weight just right! Miles is also 6.5 months and around 14.5 in height (37 cms or so) and weight is about 6.8-7kg. The Vet thought that was a little over weight still. What she recommended was i put him on an adult kibble in the...

    neutering...yay or nay?

Follow up questions! Just checked Miles to see whether the testicles have descended...to my untrained eyes, there seems to be no 'sacks' at all !! He is 5.5 months now and will be 6 months at the time of surgery. If they have descended, it should be pretty easy to spot right? If he has to...

    neutering...yay or nay?

Thanks everyone!! Yeah, i've now made an appointment to have him done on the 25th...especially given all the health benefits. :smile2:

    neutering...yay or nay?

Hi all Miles is at that age where I have to decide whether to de-sex him. But given that he doesn't have any bad behavioural traits really...(such as barking madly) i wonder if it's necessary to have him done. He DOES try to mount female dogs but i doubt surgery would change that? I...

    ears glueing - why?

Hi I've been reading a few of the posts here about glueing sheltie ears - i'm just curious as to whether this is a problem that affects every or most Sheltie and at what age? Miles is about 16 weeks (no sign of prick ears so far) and i'm not sure whether i should expect to see them up soon...

    Vet visit

hi everyone Miles is going to the vet tonight for his 2nd round vaccination and check up. As Sheltie experts, could someone advise as to any common conditions Sheltie pups suffer so i could ask the vet to look out for it? Any allergic reaction to certain injections...etc? Thanks heaps...!!!

Socializing an adolescent dog to other dogs

My only input to this topic is that when I took my 12 weeks old Miles to socialise with a friend's 3 years old female King Charles Spaniel, he followed her everywhere and tried to mount her (even though she's about 2.5 times his size!) Typical boy :-)

    Hi all...

He's British and Australian with some European line a couple of generations back...according to the breeder. Not that i know the difference between the American or English lines... :-)

    Hi all...

Even though i've used the forum haven't officially introduced myself! Here are some photos of Miles, my 12 weeks old pup (needless to say how sweet and cute he is!) who's been home with me for 2 days. We're in Sydney, Aus...
