I appreciate the replies. Looks like I will be monitoring his food intake a little more closely and see if we can shed a few pounds. I was just so surprised by the judges comment and the only stats I had seen were for AKC standard.

My sheltie Jack is larger than AKC standard at 18 inches and 39lbs. Is 39lbs over weight for his size? He doesn't appear to me to be over weight, but the 4-H showmanship judge tonight said he was over weight because she couldn't feel his ribs.

My tri takes his sleep very seriously also and growls if anyone disturbs him. He even complains if the family is talking too loud while he takes a nap. He'll growl then get up and find another place to settle in. He'll come lay beside me if I'm watching TV, but as soon as I move or bump him...

Bibs - what a great idea. My newest little sheltie, Tyco (6 months old) drools so bad in the car, he is a slimy mess by the time we get to our destination. I'll have to look into getting some bibs as well as some "burp rags" to wipe away the drool.
