Will an older puppy bond to us?

I got my "Vinnie" about two and a half months ago now. He was 18 months at the time. vinnie is the most loving and beautiful dog and the best new addition to our household. He was grown up to show and retired with his championship papers but the breeder did not have room in her kennel for him so...

    dog sitting sheltie

I have just gone through this exact thing. I recently acquired the most gorgeous bi-black boy as an ex-show dog who is now retired and needed a fur-ever home at 16 months of age. He would not go in our dog run so eventually we tried the grass. He did pee but there were times when he would hold...

    C-O-L-D puppy!

I agree with no coat. We live on the Prairies in Canada where it can go to -40 and below. On those days, Indie will go out and do his business, take a quick walk of the perimeter of the yard to make sure his world is in order then come inside:smile2:. He has a heavy full coat already. When the...

    doggy daycare

My little guy was initially frightened about doggy day care too. He acted exactly the same way....it's a sheltie thing. Now that he has beengoing for a year, he just loves. He still plays only with selected dogs, but he gets very excited when we pull up. You are on the right path to introduce it...

    dry kibble versus wet food

This is very interesting to me as I have a diabetic husband and a diabetic cat...in other words too many diabetics in one house:uhoh: I am becoming very educated in the human and feline kind but there is certainly not as much around on the canine version. I understand the relationship with...

    dry kibble versus wet food

So if dogs don't or can't use the carbs in dry food, does it then predispose them to certain illnesses such as Diabetes which is a possible result of too many carbs? If they metabolize the carbs differently would it be a good idea to lower the carb count by using grain free?

    dry kibble versus wet food

No what I have learned is that dry food for cats contains carbohydrate levels that are too high. My cat now gets low carb high protien which more closely mimics a natural diet. I wondered if it was the same for dogs as well.

    dry kibble versus wet food

I recently had a cat diagnosed as Diabetic. I found out that it was because the cat was eating dry food. On our vet's advice, we immediately switched over to a high protein/low carb wet food and insulin injections. Well four weeks later, he is totally diet controlled and must always have canned...

    Gruesome Story!

a bit of good news Well, the latest update from reputable sources is that all the shelties have been re-homed and are reported to be doing just fine. The press surrounding this incident has been significant but a lot of it has been by people who have no sense and no knowledge of dog behavior...

    Gruesome Story!

hi all, An update on the five shelties for this morning. The star of "At the End of My Leash" who is aparently an "expert" in dog training and behavior came to Saskatoon to help evaluate the dogs. He stated that there is no indicationt that the shelties won't re-adjust normally. He said that...

    Gruesome Story!

This happened just outside of the city I live in so I have some up to date knowledge of the what is happening. Currently the decision is the dogs will not be put down. They are in the foster care of the SPCA here. The thought is that SPCA will let the furor die down and then work at adopting...

Indie here....I love it when my hoo-man leaves the closet door just a bit open and I sneak in a do a panty or sock raid of the laundry basket. My hoo-man comes chasing after me, but I am too quick and we have a great time of playing chase me. I also have a personal favorite of picking up...
