    feel like a failure

How tall is your sheltie? That's a lot of food IMO. My biggest 16 1/2" only gets a cup a day and my smallest 14.25" gets 1/2 cup a day.

    feel like a failure

Kim--I agree with those that posted, get a thyroid test. What are you feeding him now? If raw food is not an option, I'd switch him to grain free. It works with my dogs in keeping their weight down, I have found that my shelties gain more weight when carbs are involved. Are you doing any...

Replyka is being nasty with Caliber...is this normal?

I use my crates for time outs the way you've described. I'm neutral, or sometimes I'll even say "You win" nonchallantly and put them in their crate. It think puppies are like toddlers, sometimes they get over tired and over stimulated and need a nap to come down. It also sounds like...

Apparently Dogs can fast...I'm at my whits end. HELP!

I would probably try Merrick canned if I was having a heavy duty fast going on, with a protein he hadn't had before. It used to be that the thought was canned was bad for dogs, now it's been proven that it's better for their overall kidney health.

Apparently Dogs can fast...I'm at my whits end. HELP!

Is he on raw now? What proteins does he like/not like? I have a sheltie who HATES raw chicken. Will eat it cooked but not raw. Sometimes they do have preferences or intolerances. Maybe something in his food is upsetting his stomach, which would be why he ate fine the first couple days and...

    Performance Tournament Master

Yes we are. It's 30 minutes from my house, that rarely happens :) It's a nice facility and great club. A really fun trial all around.

    Performance Tournament Master

We do pairs pretty often. It's required for the tournaments and to get your titles in USDAA. I prefer USDAA right now because I'm a snooker addict :) I am getting the AKC titles on my youngest because the trials are local, but if I have to travel I prefer to do it for USDAA.

    Performance Tournament Master

From USDAA: Due to the re-programming of our database with the inclusion of PVP and PSJ as well as Relay for Performance, the Versatility titles and any title that requires these classas as of 1/1/09 have not been processed. Once the programming is complete, Rah's ATD title will be...

    Stopping dog looking back

Sounds like she's not sure of her job on the contact. My dogs are taught "touch" which is my cue for 2o2o. I would go back and retrain the contacts so they are independent. Which means she'll assume her position no matter where you are. Ideas for while she's recovering would be Susan...

Food Quantity Question - Second Opinion

I don't think my shelties have ever left anything in their bowl :) I would monitor his weight to see if he's getting enough. If he starts to feel bony up his food, if he gets chubby decrease it. Amounts are pretty food specific, if that was a 1/2 cup of Orijens a day that might make him chunk...

    Can they become obsessed?

I've "done" herding a half dozen times, the dogs liked it, they showed instinct and I learned some key points to behavior. They don't seem to be any worse for the wear.

    Contacts

I taught 2o2o, switching to quick release and probably a running with some training. Can't win with the time it's taking for me to do my stopped contact, but I want to get thru Novice and Open with the baby before I start retraining.

When to switch to adult food???

I check my dogs weight frequently, the more active they are changes what they need, more training=more treats changes what they need. I don't know that I've ever just stuck to one volume.
