13 year old vomiting after eating but acting fine...

My 13 year old Timmy is acting fine -- napping, trotting around the snowy yard, woofing, etc etc, but has thrown up 3 times today. He threw up after breakfast, once midday (not after a meal) and again right after dinner this evening. He crunches his kibbles one by one quite gently, so it's not like he eats too fast or anything. For as long as we can remember, Timmy vomits when his belly is EMPTY, so he gets small treats often throughout the day, right before bed, etc, and for as long as we've done this (we're talking years now...), he hasn't puked. He is pooping just fine, all normal stuff, being his usual snuggly self, everything. Anyone have a thought, maybe just a random upset stomach, or worth an appt? I have had Shelties and other dogs since I was 2 years old but have not experienced anything like this. So odd....

Amy, you might try feeding Timmy a really bland diet of cooked rice and chicken for a day and see if he keeps it down. If not, then I would recommend a vet visit with blood work to make sure nothing is going on internally that needs to be addressed. Hopefully this will self resolve and just prove to have been a stomach upset of unknown cause. Is he able to keep water down? Vomiting over a period of time can cause dehydration.

Thanks...this just bugs me. :( Timmy has always been my easiest baby....other than his weird tummy! He can keep down water, but we didn't let him have tons since he started vomiting this AM, just a few small sips at a time b/c usually when he vomited in the past, water made it worse. He has kept down 3 saltine crackers now, given in small bites over the past 90 minutes. He seems tired and wants to go to bed, which is normal for this time of night. Actually, it's 10 Pm so we're past bedtime and he is following me around and nuzzling, normal stuff. Just dislike any illness with Timmy -- we lost his bestest buddy Dash last May, and his favorite Copper Bear buddy 3.5 years ago and he hasn't been the same since, has been more clingy, although he loves our new guys, it isn't the same. So i worry. Cannot handle any heartache right now...Thanks....

Timmy kept down a few saltines last night and has had 1/3 of a normal breakfast w/ some saltines crumbled in as well as some water. Will make him some rice this AM but no chicken. I don't cook chicken, if he isn't better later, he'll get cooked bison and sweet potato w/ his rice. Hoping it;s jsut an upset belly.....

My 2nd sheltie started having issues with poultry, duck, turkey as she aged. I ended up cooking for her for the last years of her life because tummy issues made it necessary. And as other posts suggest, probiotics aren't a bad idea either, because aging seems to deplete those. I watched her diet like a hawk because of seizures that she experienced. Anything with rosemary...30 mins later she would seize, it is in a lot of treats and kibbles and certain dogs react negatively. Our food is laced with stuff they DO NOT mention and I believe it is directly responsible for so much of the crazy stuff turning up in dogs and people lately. I hope Timmy's tummy calms down, it is hard on him and I know it is difficult for you. Good luck :smile2::smile2:

Hoping your Timmy's stomach is better today.

Regarding the rice, I was told that it can be mixed with baby food.

I, too, would consider taking Timmy the vet, if he continues the vomiting.
Vomiting is very hard on the system, especially a senior dog's.

Keeping Timmy in my prayers for restored health.

Please update, when you can. Thank you.

Not that I am doubting you, but famotidine isn't on any MDR1 list I could find.
Gavin was tested and is normal normal, but I really want to know if this is true.
Cause I recommend it freely for vomiting dogs, and will add a caveat if it is an issue. Do you have a source?

I know Imodium is on 'the list'.
