sometimes it has to do with slippery surface of the stairs. I remember when Che was a wee puppy we had wooden stairs and he did not have good traction on it... not that it stopped him
If I were you I would start having my own parties downstairs when your pup is upstairs... got some good toys, nice smelly treats, lots of silly behavior etc... also if your pup has a buddy he likes to play I would just invite the buddy and have good time too...downstairs, with pup being upstairs... see if he wants to join in...
I have no personal experience with such problems as we are rather waay on other side, have 2 flying shelties sometimes not such a great idea either, specially if one flying missile is 40 lbs
