Took my sheltie to the groomers for the first time (8 mos old) and they did a wonderful job but shaved around his ***** and trimmed his belly a little. I wasn't expecting this since I had asked not to have his belly hairs trimmed. They were not that long to begin with and now his ***** area is irritated from the shaving. They said it was to keep that hairs in that area clean.
Next time I am going to tell them not to shave or trim anything there.
I am correct in this right?

Talking to my friend who has a long-haired dog very similar to Merlin the other week we discussed shaved bellies (her dog has his entire belly area shaved) and I didn't think it a bad idea for a dog prone to knots in that delicate area, also with the types of places we go things getting stuck in the belly hair can be another issue.
