3rd day crate training

Don't cave! You will thank yourself time and time again for having your dog crate trained. It even makes a trip to the vet or groomer more manageable!
 
Agree with Barb. It was so hard to not give in. Weeks sleeping with our door closed and ear plugs in, but it was well worth it. I feel much better knowing she doesn't mind being crated. When we were hit with Sandy I felt better knowing if we had to leave to a shelter she wouldn't mind being in her crate.

I don't recommend to just put a puppy in a crate there and letting them cry...
Starting SLOW like the video example would be my choice of training this.

Having said that I also never let the dog out while they are crying, I wait for any silence, reward that, then say break... It really takes a lot of patience, but crate training is SO important and rewarding (for yourself and the dog, lol)
 
If they are crying at night, I found laying next to the crate until they fall asleep helped, and so did having it right next to the bed so I could stick my fingers in with her. I also used to cover most of the crate with a thick blanket.

After a week or so of this, she was calm at night, although we still kept her in the room with us. (I was sooooo glad when we could move from crate containment to just a leash and I didn't have to lug that thing up and down the stairs anymore!)
 
He is doing really well in the crate, cries every now and then though.
He sleeps through the night in it, and will run to it when scared.

We even put him in it when he is ornery and needs to calm down, once calm enough we take him out to play fetch or tug to help get rid of any pent up energy in an appropriate manner.

I thought a crate was meant to help house break him though, but he still goes potty in it?
