I never take mine in the car once we get a sunny day with temps over 60 if I know I will have to leave them in the car...it is amazing how fast a car can heat up and become an oven when it is left standing in the sun even with windows open. If there is full shade you can park in, then temps in the low 70's shouldn't be dangerous. And leaving the car running and the AC on is no guarantee of safety...just last year a police dog died in our area when the officer answered a call and left his dog for only 20 minutes in his car parked on a street with no shade but with the air conditioner on...it was a really hot summer day and the AC just couldn't keep the car cool enough with the sun beating down on it. Dogs overheat much faster than humans.
