7 month old doesn't like me preparing human food

You could always try a spray bottle of water. Give your command, like 'Enough!' or 'Go lie down' and if she doesn't listen, give her a squirt. Works well with my pack.

I'm an advocate of positive training, but I also realize how nutty this kind of behavior can make you feel. Its a small price to pay for your sanity some times. :rolleyes2:
 
Deska sometimes barks at me when I'm preparing food. I find it really annoying. When he does it I stop what I'm doing, sit down with my arms crossed and ignore him. It shuts him up pretty quickly and he doesn't do it a second time. Not that it will stop him doing it in the first place, but as soon as he sees me head towards a chair now he knows he better shut up or there won't be any food or fun.
 
Bailey only barks and jumps when I'm preparing her food. When she does this, I do the same thing Caro does. I stop, take a few steps back, fold my arms and wait for her to stop jumping and barking.

When she sits down, I return to preparing her food. It only takes her a few seconds to realize that when she sits, I go back and she's usually quiet the rest of the time.

When I'm making food for myself, she just hangs around my feet waiting to see if I accidentally drop anything on the floor. :lol:

If I'm really cooking and chopping up food, then I put a gate up, so she can't get into the kitchen. I don't want to drop anything that might be toxic for her.
 
Thanks for all the moral support. I think I just needed the 'yes, it's not just you' from a few others to make me feel a bit more positive about things. I'll try a few of the suggestions and see what happens. If I have to crate her every time I prepare food then I guess I'll get used to it.

For all frustration I feel when she does this, she only has to come and sit next to me on the sofa and I find myself having a 'I'm sorry for not understanding you' sort of a chat. I suppose she's only young still and going through phases just like my kids. I can laugh now when I remember uttering the words 'at least a dog can't answer you back' when we were just thinking about getting a dog. Silly me!

Tried this advice and so far so good. She was not amused when I totally ignored her and she soon got bored and wandered off. Every time she came back in the kitchen and started to jump I did the same thing and off she went again.

It's only been a day, so I won't hold my breath but if I get a little relief from the bark/jump/dig, then I'll be happy. Thank you Caro!
