A few questions on housetraining our new puppy

Hi everyone! My husband and I just bought our first puppy!
We're both super excited, but I'm a bit unsure about a few things.

He will be coming home to us on June 9th. I had been hoping that it could be June 16th, as I have to leave town for work and won't be back till them. But, the breeder wants to charge us boarding fees for that extra week.

So, my husband will pick him up June 9th without me. The trouble is, he works long hours, whereas I was planning on working from home for the first couple of weeks.

Since he'll be at work most of the day (8:00 am - 7:00 pm) crate training won't be an option. It would be too many hours of course. Should we section of a room at leave him there with newspaper?

I feel really terrible about him being alone so many hours! It will be for 5 days in total.

Any suggestions?

Congratulations and don't forget to post pictures when your new little one gets home.

Blocking off a section with newspaper would be fine. You can work through the transition to outside as you can.

You may want to invest in an ex-pen. That's what I did for the days when I couldn't get home at lunch. We had our puppy's crate in an ex-pen, and outside of the crate was a place with newspaper. She rarely used it, but it made me feel better that she had the option if she so chose.

How about an x-pen?

It gives them plenty of room to play & sleep, plus you can put papers down or puppy pads in one corner.

We use one still for Mia (deaf & blind). It gives her a safe haven, and lately she has taken to sleeping in it all night. Can't be without it.

Sectioning off a room with a gate will work to,but make sure you have really puppy proofed the area.

Welcome by the way, looking forward to seeing pictures!!
