Flurry was in her first conformation show of the summer season today. I was so proud of her...she was Winners Bitch, Best of Winners and Best Opposite! A good day for sure. We're back tomorrow, fingers crossed she does well again.

Very cool, you must be so proud. She is a striking looking girl! Can you explain what those classes mean, I am not knowledgeable about conformation showing. For instance, what is Best Opposite? Does it mean, if a male wins the class, best opposite is the best female in that same class? :confused2:

Conformation is judged by gender according to age and color, so classes for boys and classes for girls are held. These consist of 5 or more different classes, from puppy on up to Open. At the end of all the classes for each sex, the winner of each class goes back in the ring and Winners Dog (male) or Winners Bitch (girl) is chosen and those dogs are awarded points toward their championship. Those two dogs compete in Best of Breed which comes next, along with any "specials" -- dogs who have already accumulated the points needed to win their Championship.

Best of Breed is chosen from that group, as well as Best Opposite which is the best dog of the opposite sex from Best of Breed. So if Best of Breed is a male, Best Opposite will be a female and vice versa. Best of Winners is either the Winners Dog or Winners Bitch and is considered the "best" of all the class dogs. This title can make a difference in how many points are awarded. It takes 15 points to be a Champion. The number of points awarded at each show is determined by the number of dogs of that breed entered, from one point up to five points for a "major."

If you're confused, don't feel bad. It took me two years to understand this system and I still have to ask questions sometimes!
