This may be a silly question, but how do you pronounce the word "merle" as in sable merle? Is it pronounced MARE-L or MER-L or MERL?

I know you all say things strangely over there (lol) but here in Oz we say Merl.

So does the Merl mean they have some type of blue on them. If its in their fur or their eyes?
