This was a really informative thread! I never had this happened to my girls, but I am sure that I would have panicked if it did. It is nice to know that it isn't a critical situation.

I'm glad to hear you found the thread useful Ive had Precious's paws get a bit raw before, but as other members have described the recent photos as disgusting, it seemed a lot more serious this time, I too am glad to hear she should be okay. I've heard the footpads on dogs contain a great number of blood vessels, so even a superficial paw cut can result in what seems like a serious amount of bleeding. Thank god she wasn't bleeding yet and her skin just.... 'peeled' off? Rule of thumb, if the bleeding doesnt stop relatively soon after you've treated the wound then your vet should be immediately contacted. Otherwise, it seems they all heal by themselves over time which is great to know She stopped limping this afternoon by the way!

Thank you Phebe, though I'm not sure what flooring it is exactly, I can only describe it as black rubbery non-slip mat/tiles??? Nothing gritty or carpets or bristles though. Perhaps just sharp turns and runs (she loves running at full speed) is probably why, the abrupt turns on a nonslip mat. I'm glad to hear they'll heal well, she isn't limping either today either so I wouldn't have known if I didn't check/if they didn't check. Do you think I should take the excess skin thats peeled off partly, safely, incase Precious tries to chew it off??

Marlowe goes to daycare regularly and our facility has the non-slip mats, too. They are great for safety but they can be hard on the feet.

Marlowe's feet never got as bad as Precious' but they did get a little raw in the beginning. They eventually toughened up so you won't have to worry about it long-term.

You may also want to put some neosporin on ad cover with childrens white tube socks while she is resting at home so she doesn't lick them too much.

It is better if you address the problem as soon as possible. Try contacting people who are experienced in puppy care, they could suggest you the right measures to follow. You can contact them through online also.
