Abigail is 100% Shetland Sheepdog

Lovely

After months of considering whether Abigail might be a mix, I finally broke down and did the DNA test. They were having a holiday discount and I jumped at the chance. It turns out that they detected no other breeds than Sheltie! So we have one tiny Sheltie and one giant Sheltie. This confirms the back story of her being a puppy mill mama very well, though, as she is probably AKC registered and was producing registered pups to boost sales. Sick, but that's what her beginnings are.

Her forever home is with us and she has a bright and shiny future! We've even started taking her to Flyball practices and she shows some talent. Lots of work to do and competition is a looooonnngg way off, but it is something we can enjoy and a sport to get her mind engaged and keep her slender. When she's doing enough to actually video, I'll put up some shots.

And some gratuitous pictures of Abigail Jubilee, our sweet lady.

LOL... I saw Pierre's photo 1st and thought "WOW :eek2: ... that is the tiniest sheltie I've ever seen... and kind of odd looking for a sheltie" ... siiiigh... must pay more attention.

Yay Abigail.... welcome to the 100% club!!

She was pretty good at the gathering so I cannot imagine how much she has come out of her shell by now  Her and Duncan are big pals also aren't they (looked like she was keeping an eye out in the pics)

That's so funny! That would be a tiny Sheltie. Duncan is only 3 lbs heavier than Pierre if you can believe it.

This is my favorite picture of the bunch:

I can see why people ask if Duncan is Abbie's puppy.

Oh, yes! Abbie and Duncan are the dynamic duo. They could chase each other all day. I loved having the yard at my dad's house to unleash them into (once I made sure it was secure). It was awesome. Next house will definitely have a yard!

I love that picture too...standing together looking for Santa Paws.

How much does Duncan weigh now? Newton is VERY interested to find out if he is no longer the "smallest sheltie" from the gathering. Newton now weighs a whopping 11 lbs!

Well, at the last vet visit, Duncan was 10.5 lbs and the vet said "perfect." The good range is 9.5 lbs to 12 lbs, but he wants him in the middle to lighter. He was considering the fact that Duncan does dog sports and we need to keep him slender to avoid injury. Then we had about a month off Flyball and his weight crept up to 11.5 lbs. Just with exercise and no cutting back of food, he's back under 11 lbs, with great muscle tone and just a slight layer of fat on his ribs and chest. I know you didn't ask all that, but I am more conscious of that dog's weight than I am normally with my own! Oh, and I'm hoping for a half pound of fur to be added when Duncan decides to drop the last bits of puppy fur and grow up. Hehehee...

Now to get Abbie in dog sport shape!

LOL! I did the same thing....Pierre's picture was the first one that popped up, and I had to go back into the thread to make sure I wasn't missing something! Then I finally found Abigail's photo!

She sure has beautiful colours! But she is BIG for sure! No wonder you were wondering....

I'm curious, since I'm sure you've told us before. How tall is Abbie? I know a Sheltie that is 21" tall, seriously, looks like a small Collie. lol.

Anyhow, welcome to the purebreed of Shelties Abbie. We knew you were all along. (btw, I love her coloring).

And second BTW, I love Pierre, he's so adorable.
