About What Age Did Your Pup Mellow out?

Our puppy is only 6 months and he's pretty mellow. I think he is just a mellow guy. He does get rowdy when the kids get home from school- but then he settles down again. We're pretty lucky that he doesn't use a crate (unless we leave the house) and just finds nice places to sleep next to his "people". I believe he was just born this way!

Wow, it looks like every pup is different. Makes sense, since they all have such different personalities.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for a bit of mellowing soon, but regardless I love my busy little bee (but will be glad when she decides to stop getting into mischief.)

Lets see- Justice is an old soul. I swear he was born sensible. Now he was active and needed his mind and body stimulated(would run though the house and do kick flips off the cabinets) but he was incredible focused even at 6 wks which was the first time I met him. When I got him at 11 weeks he was like an adult. Seriously he was unreal. He never chewed anything, never got into trouble. He was free in the house by 9 months. Went straight though obedience classes and was learning Open at 10 months and had his first CD title at 14 months. He does still bounce around on occasion at 11.5yrs just like he did as a puppy.

Ember who is Justice's niece was a quick maturing puppy too. I think she was starting to mellow at 1 yrs and really started to settle by 1.5 yrs. But like a fine wine, Ember is still mellowing at almost 9. She was a surly pup and now she seems to be having more fun in life but in a different way. It is weird.

Diva, ah Diva. The brain really started to come in the mail around 2.5yr and she was pretty mature by 3yr. But mellow is never a word I would have called Diva. ADD yes, mellow no.

Birch again is not mellow. He is ready to go at the drop of a hat. But at 2yr 3 months he is pretty mature. He naps in the chair with me most evenings and He finally graduated to sleeping outside the kennel at night a couple months ago. But then just when I think all is good he brings me a sock he stole from somewhere or is found ripping up the newspaper(just this afternoon, sigh)

When I got my second dog - both where 10 months old.....then they chased each other instead of me.....

Finally, and they are both 6 years old, they chase each other less and less....but part of that is because of Bacca's illness. Otherwise, I think they would still chase each other.

Deska came to me as a calm, easy going pup. he started changing in late adolescence and became an anxious dog around 2yrs, could have been the arthritis developing though. My vet (who's a behaviourist) says a lot of dogs do develop anxieties and other issues when they reach emotional maturity. Tully had 'early onset adolescence' (that's my term), she was a brat at 5mths, continued until 9mths and turned into a sweet thing around 1yr.

Wondering if mine is normal now...

Prancer takes nap every two n half hours he will just find a blanket on floor and take a nap. Sleeps for about hour n half .
Seems healthy this has been the pattern since we brought him home.
He goes like a wild guy all the other times..

Cookie was a pretty mellow pup. I mean he would definitely have moments where he would play for an hour and he still does, but as long as he got his walks and some play time, he would chill out and take naps and be happy to sit with me. I'd say he was born mellow. But I have had other dogs that took around 12-18 months to really settle down. Neutering/spaying calmed some of them somewhat. But calmness and excitability and energy levels are also personality traits and they vary amongst individual dogs :)

Ruutu is 13 months old, still as hyper and active as he was when we brought him home at 8 weeks.

Honey mellowed around age 5.
