Acquired heart murmur

Miles just came back from his annual check up (he is 15 months). The vet noticed a very soft (grade 1) heart murmur which wasn't there before.

I'm taking him to get an ultra-sound but just wanted to know if anyone has had experience with this?


He doesn't have any other symptoms at the moment and generally very healthy but i'm worried it could get worse.

I have no experiance with this,but I know there are owners here with pups that probably have.hopefully they will chime in,and give you some insight.

Years ago, we had a Pomeranian with a heart murmur. It wasn't found until he was an adult, but the vet said if they get them in puppyhood, they usually outgrow them, especially if they're mild. But perhaps one of our Forum vets or breeders could give you more insight into this.

In any event, Foxy, our Pom, lived a very active, typical Pom-frenzied life until age 14. I think if your vet just monitors it, the odds are your pup will be fine.

My experience is with me -- I have what's called a physiologic heart murmur. It's no problem -- runs in the family. Here's hoping that's what your baby has.

So many things a heart murmur can be. It could be nothing or something. Heart murmurs in young puppies 8wk or so are the ones that are most likely to be out grown. Good your getting an ultrasound.
