So, today I was out of town and I got a call saying that my Sheltie bit my cat! I heard it's pretty bad.. She got her back.:( I have never been so ashamed of her.. She's never done it before! How do I stop this behavior?

Aggressive sheltie?

Since your sheltie has never done this before, something triggered the bite. When human children get mad they often resort to hitting...not acceptable, but their way of showing intense anger. With animals the "hit" becomes a "bite"...again not acceptable, but until you know what the circumstances were that led up to the bite, it will be hard to figure out how to limit the chances that it will happen again.

I agree with Trini and Dani. I wouldn't write off the dog as aggressive without knowing the circumstances.

Could be they were playing and the cat got too rough, or the dog was grabbing for a toy and grabbed the cat, etc.

Dickens is the gentlest dog you'll ever see, but a couple of months ago he snapped very forcefully at little Callie who was trying to take his treat ball away from him. Ordinarily he lets her walk all over him, but I think he had lost all patience with her. Any other time she can work her will with him, but now she's a bit more cautious.

Okay.. Here's the story..

In the middle of the night there was barking and as Bobbi ran by, it looked like dried blood. Here is what we thought happened: Tarra bit Bobbi in the back and as Bobbi came out if the hiding spot, Tarra was barking. Then she got put in the garage all day!

It looked like dried blood so we thought it happened earlier.. It didn't make sense. Tarra would never hurt anyone in her family! She just likes to herd them! It was way too big to be her! You could smell an awful stench! But then, I got a closer look at it looking for bite marks, I didn't find ANYTHING!

What really happened: In the garage, we have a bunch of heat lamps, and they sleep by them.. Someone left the garage door open and Bobbi, came running out of the garage.. She got so close to the heat lamp her fur caught on fire and Tarra, was just being a little hero, alerting everyone that poor Bobbi's fur was on fire! The awful stench.. Was burning fur! Congrats to my baby girl!

Aggressive Sheltie...?

I am really glad everything has turned out OK...but I would definitely relocate those heat lamps in such a way that they can't ever be knocked over again. This could have resulted in a tragedy.
