So Cody, my 4-yo Sable likes to counter surf, and has managed to run away with anything within grasp such as, butter sticks, cookies, ears of corn, etc.

So I made a Cornucopia table decoration out of breadstick dough yesterday covering a foil template and then baking it. Can you guess where this story is going??

I then took it outside to spray with a sealant to save it for Thanksgiving. Well, my boy had to go out, and when I went back to let him in, I saw him chomping up the remains of it. I had put it up high on an outdoor table never thinking he'd grab it!! :no:

This dog can sniff out food 100 miles away!!! Back to the grocery store...
 
I am so (snort) very sorry (snicker, chortle) to hear that your -- oh I give up - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!! :lol:
 
Tinsel says it was the neighbour's cat. Pesky thing that likes to get good shelties in trouble. Hee hee hee.

I have to share this picture of Blake yestersday...yes...he is on the table. That little twit jumped on the chair..and made himself really comfy and ate every bit of cat food in the dishes.

Brian came out of the bathroom,and looked at the table and thought it was Oreo. (tuxedo kitty) so he is black & white...then he realized it was Blake..

Well I will tell you,I was in so much shock,my mouth would not shut. I scolded his little @ss..and he cowered so low into himself,he looked like a pancake on the table.
They will do anything for food!
Chuckle..snort.. I'm sorry but your story was to cute.

Poor Cody clearly thought you made him a nice Thanksgiving treat! :lol: That'll teach you not to made decorations out of food. :hide

Seriously, we feel your pain. And Michele, Blake looks quite pleased with himself there on the table! What a stinker, but too too cute. :yes:
 
I feel your pain. I made lemon blueberry loaf last night & left it on the counter to cool & so DH could cut a slice for work. When I took the dogs out we went through the kitchen. I told Forrest he was a good boy & he stopped right there & stood up excitedly to grab the loaf off the counter. Right in front of me! No shame, they have no shame.

Rescue gave us a handout with our first Sheltie that covered the topic of food, glorious food. And the fact that they'll steal it without any remorse.
 
Welcome to the table/counter surfing sheltie club! Olive figured that out when she was about 8 months old and she thinks it's hilarious. Nothing is safe within her reach. It's not so much about the food, but the stealing and destroying. She got on the dinner table once and stole my chicken breast right out from under my fork (she's fast). She loves to lick out any wineglass (and yes we know that's bad!). Any shred-able item is toast. She has stolen food, remotes, batteries, magazines/mail/cash, kitchen utensils (she's fond of spatulas and spoons)... the list goes on.

We've had to be careful to push in our chairs at the kitchen table or Olive will use them as a step stool, and then uses the table to get on the counters. I think we have pictures somewhere, will post if I find them.
 
Another counter surfer! They're way too smart. I've got one that surfs counters with his long nose, and they other just jumps. I've lost several roast chickens, various dinners, bags of chocolates, nuts, quiche, even a glass of port! Funnily they never steal the fruit.

And you think it's bad now - they get worse! I had to move the table away from the bench and now have to put all the chairs on the table when I leave as Tully learnt to push the chairs out to reach the benchtop. Plus anything on the bench or table has to be at least a sheltie nose length away from the edge. Cupboards have elastic bands around the handles to stop Deska opening them and I had to buy a slide top bin when I found him with his head in the swing top.

Yep, every year they come up with another devious method to scavange.

SNORT! Asta at 18 inches is just big enough to reach the edge of the counter. She ate 3/4 of an apple tart our neighbor left us after my father in law passed away. My hubby was out of the house less than 5 minutes and when he came back..... No shame or remorse, for sure. Her nose was covered in powdered sugar. Poor 14.5 inch Ally can only stand there and drool.....

On the other hand - lemon blueberry loaf sounds so yummy - how about sharing the recipe? :biggrin2:

I am just curious, had you already used the sealant? Just wondering if he has gotten sick from it. I'd be afraid it might be toxic.
