Angry......:'/

So sorry--poor Precious.

The good thing is that dogs have short memories. She won't hold it against you or your brother.

I've come to realize that no one--no matter how detailed my instructions--will take care of my dogs the way that I do. It's a combination of things...some people aren't dog people, some people just don't think about it, and sometimes the connection you have with your dog just can't be emulated (like I wonder if friends/family would understand what this bark means, or that look means, etc...) I've had friends come over and try to play with our dogs, and I just laugh because they "aren't doing it right" and the dogs don't get it

I know it's hard, but I wouldn't get too mad at your brother. He doesn't get it. Once you've calmed down just tell him how it made you feel that he didn't listen to your instructions. Let him know that it made you sad to see Precious sitting in discomfort all day. I know you shouldn't really cater the way you act towards others, but keep in mind that he doesn't have the relationship with Precious that you do, so try to speak in more general terms.

I remember once we left Bentley with my IL's. They loved having him and I am confident that he was well taken care of. He slept in their bed and I'm sure got loads of treats (:rolleyes2:). But we picked him up and his eyes were FULL of eye boogers. Obviously "clean out eye boogers" was not on my list of instructions, but I was really upset that they didn't see them. They were huge! I kept feeling bad for Bentley and couldn't believe they didn't do something about them.

And then I realized, they never even thought about it. They aren't dog people. I clean the dogs' eyes out every day, but how would they know that? I just had to let it go once I realized that we just see things from a very different perspective when it comes to a dog's care. (For example, I would NEVER admit to my mom that I took the dogs to a chiropractor. Not that I'm embarrassed, it just isn't work the argument/explanations!)

I'm with Ashley...its unrealistic to expect anyone to take care of your dog as you would or to even know how, or what to look for?

And in your brother's defence....some people just CAN'T deal with crap (yes, pun intended!) My bf would gag if I ever asked him to clean my dog's butts.

Will get back to you on the issue itself soon.....by supper just arrived!

Oh, Michelle! Poor Precious, and poor you! No one will ever care for our dogs as diligently as we ourselves do. Even family!

Bela just went through the same symptoms during the Christmas holiday. I spent Christmas eve and day with the carpet cleaner and spotbot (and thank goodness I had them). A 24 hour fast, some electrolyte fluid, and plain old puree of pumpkin cleared her up. But it was mucusy and smelly and she was so embarassed to be so messy all over her prissy pants!

Concerning the carefulness of caretakers: In 2005, I had spinal surgery, then went through a massive MRSA infection and almost died. When I got home from three weeks in hospital, I was still on IV antibiotics, could not walk without help, and was still extremely weak. I had two dogs at the time - my heart Sheltie Neechee and my humongous Border Collie, Max. I was married at the time to my ex. Well, dog care was completely out of the question for me, as I was on bed rest. I had nurse visits twice a day, but other than that I was alone while ex was at work. So no walkies for puppies. My neighbor was kind enough to send over her 12 year old son to walk them, but he was unreliable. My mom and dad got wind of what was going on, and came over only to find my living room, home office, and kitchen full of old feces and the downstairs smelling of pee and poop. (I was stuck in the bedroom upstairs and hadn't been downstairs in several weeks.) They spent two days cleaning up, gave the ex a good piece of their minds (or at least my mom's), and my dad made the hour trip every day to come walk my boys for me. So in that case, they took better care of my boys than the ex did.

When I divorced and had to move in with my parents, I only was able to bring Neechee with me. My parents completely spoiled him, and they are not dog people! All of Neechee's careful obedience training and "house manners" went totally out the window. Any time I tried to enforce manners, my mom would snatch Neechee up and cuddle him, laughing and accusing me of being "mean" to my dog!!!! It was funny, but exasperating.

When Neechee was in his last year, my parents could not have been more caring - I remember seeing my dad taking Neechee out in the rain, holding an umbrella over him, and helping him balance after his stroke. Very sweet.

Sorry I went on for so long. Your post just brought back some memories.

Anyway, I hope Precious is better soon - keep us posted!

I have no idea why. Her food hasn't changed. She hasn't gotten any treats in the past few weeks, just her kibble. She did throw up/gag once too between the two diarrehas (morning and night), around the afternoon. The only thing I noticed today were those stomach gurgles I've asked on a thread once before. Where her stomach sounds really loud, and I can hear it from a few feet away. If this was normal? And she gets scared by her own stomach noises and tries to sniff her gut. That was the only odd thing that came up at the same time, the only connected thing I can think of. =/

I definitely gave her lots and lots of hugs and lots and lots of apologies. Ever get that feeling when you feel like you just let your dog down? I felt like that today. I hate it when I realized I wasn't able to be home for her when she needed me most. She was so happy after I washed her up, she groomed her legs to dry off the remaining wetness after her shower for a couple of minutes before falling asleep at my feet. I was just glad she got to get comfortable and sit, makes my blood boil thinking she had to uncomfortable sit with the stench of her own poop while I wasn't here........ =/ Yah, I'm still pretty upset about the situation..... If it was a small deal, I'd understand. But if you're home, and you see a sick dog, for whatever reason, it's just not human to ignore it. No matter how busy you are. He wasn't busy at all. There just aren't any excuses. Other than he got lazy. And that isn't acceptable. It does hurt when they drop the ball on you like that... If he told me to begin with he had no interest in taking care of her over this tonight, I wouldve come right home. I care more about my Precious than missing out on one tutorial out of a whole year, but he told me otherwise that he'd take care of it until I got there.. Bleh, I feel like I was deceived in a way?..

Oh Michele~ I feel so bad for you. I know how you feel. And I know that Precious totally loves you. I came home one night from work a couple of weeks ago.And found Mia in a way just like Precious. She had bouts of loose poops for a couple of days as well.
Although she was fine when Brian left for work,I came home to a very stressed and poopy Mia. I bathed her at 10pm that night, and blowed dried her.Gave her nice warm bedding.

But the end result, she was so appreciative, and cuddled and let me know she was ok.
I know you are dissapointed, some people just don't get it,they don't have that connection with a pet,or even to some people.
Sending healing prayers to Precious, and hopes she gets to feeling much better

p.s. Did not mean to sound unsympathetic....I just reread my response and realized I was rushing....I still owe you a better response but I'm stille rushed.....:wink2:

Poor Precious. I'm so sorry she's sick. Buffy and I send her good wishes and hope she's feeling better soon.

Did your brother ever apologize? Anyway, I think you probably just have to let it go. It might be good to find someone else in your neighborhood, like a dog walker or just a neighbor, who can check in on Precious in case anything like this happens again. Give her lots of hugs this week and the chicken and rice is a good idea. I've heard pumpkin also settles their stomachs.

Poor Precious!!
Hope she feels better soon! Gosh they hate to be messy like that, don't they!? I had Toffee at the beach once before work and didn't realize he must have ingested way more ocean water than normal, so I came home to a horrid mess, poor Toffee was devastated and wouldn't come back inside even until I had the worst cleaned up and bathed him, he felt so much better after! You could tell.

I would be so peeved at your brother, too. Actually I AM pissed at him, lol. I think it is ridiculous, quite frankly. I understand if he couldn't do it as well as you, but to not do anything?? I would be terribly disappointed... Hope you're able to explain it to him and accept his apology once it is coming!

Appreciate the responses everyone, it was good for me to read through them.

Just to add though, I just don't think I had unrealistic expectations. I'm not talking about someone who gags over diarrhea or someone who's never looked after a dog before. We had Pudding who was a seizure dog, cleaning pee and poop, blood and foam spit and showering a dog is of no big deal, we've done it 4-5 times a day, everyday, everyone, depending on how many times she seized and how many times we had to clean it up and medicate her. Her sickness is something that's affected us all and I know it's something we're all able to do in this household. Regardless of if they liked doing it or not, it's something they always knew they had to do and were capable of doing.

I pointed it as being an act of "laziness" to NOT do it, because he simply chose not to. When I came home, he was in his room, at his table, on his Iphone, playing video games on his computer, trying to look busy but he just wasn't. When I questioned him, he looked nervous and gave me bs answers. What it looked like was that he just forgot. That he was planning on doing the 'chores' 'later'. I repeat, he WAS not busy. That observation, is what made me so angry. That being on his phone was more important than doing what he told me what he would do. It's not like he didn't know how, that he didn't think I didn't want him to. After losing Pudding so tragically, more so, he knows how sensitive I am to things like this. When Precious gets unexpectedly sick. More the reason to feel so let down on my part, and feel so disappointed that he could do this to me. The person I thought gave me so much support through my loss with Pudding, making me my dog paw print to remember her by, making the trip with me to say goodbye to Pudding when we heard she wouldn't last for another 10 minutes, being there in the room with me at the vet for euthanization, helping me medicate and take care of her, accept my feelings for my love of dogs. This all told me he too cared. To think the same 'caring' person than did the total opposite and didn't care at all.... It hurt. It just hurt.. It just is that he chose not to do because he didn't want to, over my feelings and his responsibilities at the time over a sick puppy. And that's upsetting. So again, it's not unrealistic expectations but realistic expectations let down, more accurately put.

No we haven't made amends. I just don't find it acceptable. It just still doesn't make sense to me. He hasn't apologized after that nor has he brought it up. He knows he was wrong, but what he broke with me was a trust I had with him over Precious. Regardless of how busy I get, I'll be taking care of her on my own. It was convenient to ask him since he's home almost all the time, but it's not necessary. I'd rather tend to her myself than risk having him 'not do it when he told me he would' and come home to find her by herself again.

As for Precious, she hasn't pooped since last nights diarrhea explosion so I don't know how her stool is today. I'm going to take her out soon and see if she needs to let out today's food. The only thing I noticed is she ate today, but I don't know if she was eating too fast but she threw up mid way. Afterwards, she continued eating, she seemed hungry. She doesn't seem lethargic at all. After cleaning her up from her own poop last night, she's been quite energetic and happy and cheery since. Today too, she's full of energy other than the frequent throw ups. It's quite confusing so I don't really know. Precious definitely throws up a lot more than Pudding ever has. Even the morning yellow bile throw ups or inbetween day throw ups. Maybe I'm missing a key symptom, maybe it really all is nothing, maybe it is her food and she's grain intolerant like someone chipped in, I don't know. Nothing seems serious enough to warrant a vet visit but hate that she must be feeling uncomfortable enough to throw up every week or other week. And the diarrehas isn't a good sign either I suppose. Will see what tomorrow brings us.

Just wanted to send you some hugs. I honestly couldn't even try to figure out what is wrong with Precious. I'm assuming you've had all the usual bug tests done to rule things out? I know when Koji was a pup (he grew up on GF food), he had the same thing, but his was more due to anxiety. I tried probiotics, didn't do anything. I tried yogurt, that was a joke. Pumpkin finally worked and yes, I used it daily. I still use it daily. If this is a normal thing for her, have you thought of using one of the 3 things I just listed?

As for your brother. I guess my questions would be, 1. how old is he? 2. is Precious your dog, or the family's dog? Age could be a big factor, especially considering Puddles and what happened. Or he could just be trying to keep his distance. And if he was giving you BS answers, it could be he literally forgot. I know, hard for us to do, but sometimes, very simple for others. Also, depending on who's dog Precious is, would determine if I say to you, "it's his responsibility too" or "it's really not his responsibility".

I hope she feels better soon. I would suggest something like probiotics, yogurt, or pumpkin daily. For me, a teaspoon of pumpkin per feeding was a godsend. I'm sure he was ultra happy too.

It's late so, sorry if my response doesn't isn't as clear. 1) Not sure what you mean by feeding probiotics exactly so I sure no, havent fed that. 2) Yoghurt doesn't do anything for us either 3) Fed her a little pumpkin today but so far, still no poop so I can't say. Other than that, mini fast so not much of anything else because she throws it back up for the most part. The only reason I'm up is to let precious out but she still isn't going yet. Checked the forums one last time before going back to bed because i remembered i wanted to shut down my laptop.. I guess I'll have to try again at 7-8AM, in the next few hours. I guess I'll know if the pumpkin is working over the next few days then!

1. Old enough, older brother, older than me. Old. 2) My dog, I do training, I pay bills, under my name/I bought her, I pay insurance, I exercise and socialize her, I take her out to places. But also family dog in the end because I live with my family, dog lives in our house, we share responsibilities of pee breaks, feeding times, play, time spent together at home, the smaller things that they know can handle better, etc. Just because she's my dog, I don't deprive her from my family or my family of her or anything like that. Mine, but still ours. If that makes any sense.

Anyways, sorry for all the trouble everyone. Thank you again for hearing me out. I'm not angry per say. I think it was just one of those things that I'll never learn to understand and accept the 'why's' and 'how's' to the story in the end, and that's the only reason why I'm still thinking about it. I was upset at first but afterwards I was more puzzled and bewildered and mind-boggled really, as to why and how it might have happened, and that's what made me feel upset. But that's that, what happened happened. I understand THAT. I may not agree and my feelings may have been hurt, with no genuine excuse/explanation or sincere apology, but I can only look to try and do better and make better decisions, for Precious. My top priority now is just to make sure she feels better. The best medicine for both me and for her is to snuggle in the warm bed together, wish for sweet dreams, and hope for a better tomorrow!

:biggrin2: Goodnight everyone. Have a great Sunday!

If this continues you may want to get her to a vet. With the loose stoll and now vomiting she may be close to dehydration. Mucus in stool can also be a sign of pancreatitis. Best of luck hope she is better soon.
