How about a 'soft' GSD?
I have a Shiloh. You get a large GSD/malamute/'MAW'(still have no idea what that is) with an easy temperament. Most will easily gain their CGC on their first try. Health-wise, most, if not all the breeders who register their dogs will not breed until the dog is 2 years old, AND passes their hips, heart and sometimes thyroid test with flying colors.
They're also used as Therapy Dogs, Search and Rescue, etc. They bond VERY closely to their human, and while not exactly known for being good guarddogs, honestly, I feel very safe with my looks-like-a-wolf. Even though he just turned 8 months (with all the angst that a teen giant dog can produce), I have seen grown men wait at the end of the hall when we travel so I can pass with Tal to the ice machine. This is the same giant that will be completely submissive to my scotty and wants so badly to play with our now 12 week old sheltie (the size difference is still too great at this point).
The one thing might be their size; they are supposed to be over 100 pounds for the males, but the females are smaller. Perhaps this is something you and your daughter could consider. While I don't think I've seen blue eyes in Shilohs, they come in a rainbow of colors and are either smooth (short coat) or plush.
