Anyone Going to Sunnybank?

Is anyone planning to attend the 2011 Gathering at Sunnybank on 20-21 August? It's in Wayne, New Jersey at the former estate of Albert Payson Terhune. I go every year, and while it's 99% Collies, Shelties are most welcome. The flyer is on this site.

I'm going to be in CT at my club's match/picnic that weekend!

The Collie people always seem to have a good time; my mother did the Gathering one year and had a blast. I'd definitely recommend it (but I love hanging out with Collie people! Ask me about the year I skipped the Sheltie national and went to the Collie national instead... :lol:).

Sigh...I would love to but a bit of a drive for us. Someday I hope to make it. I was never much of a Lassie fan but if it hadn't been for Lad, I might never have set my heart on collies so would love to be able to pay tribute.
 
That's pretty cool that they have this ongoing tribute to Terhune and his dogs-especially at Sunnybank itself. Sunnybank always seemed so idyllic from Terhune's writings-and is still quite scenic (I visited about 4 years ago-saw Lad's gravesite.

It would be a dream come true if I could go. Albert Payson Terhune was my favorite author when I was a child, and I was obsessed with collies.

As an adult, I discovered there was a smarter, cuter version of a collie -- the Sheltie! But I was still such a fan of Terhune that the registered name of my first Sheltie, Sunny, was "Pyramid's Song of Sunnybank." (Pyramid was the breeder's kennel name. I figured I could get away with using "Sunnybank," too, because Terhune's kennel no longer exists.)

I still have a couple of Terhune's "Lad" books that I found at a used bookstore. Written in the 1920s, the language is rather formal and melodramatic, and the collies are impossibly heroic. But Lad's feats of self-sacrifice can still bring tears to my eyes. And I love the engraving on the cover of the two collies running. They look so much like our Shelties in action!

It would be great to meet you, Chris. I am located about 50 minutes west of Wayne. If you come out via 81 to 78.....I am right over the border of PA and NJ off 78.

My hubby has to play piano at Mass that Saturday night....and I have a wedding shower on the afternoon of the 20th....but the 21st might work.
 
I don't think I will be able to go. My parents' just moved to South Jersey and need some help unpacking. I will probably spend this weekend at their house. If my plans change, I'll let you know.
