Behavior in dog parks

page gone, but I, for one, do not like dog parks. I mean, in theory they are great, but I am always afraid that one of them might really hurt mine, they are so little, and some there are so big, the owner may have the best of intentions to keep them well behaved, but accidents happen. I know I will not let mine off the leash when we are at one.

We are going to be getting a dog park in our city sometime in the next year or two. I doubt if I will be taking my dogs even though it looks like it will be nice, its going to have a small pond and agility equipment. I don't trust the people around here to not bring their aggressive/untrained dogs.

I don't like dog parks. For one, the nearest one to me is in VA and you have to have a VA dog license, which mine don't. BUT I don't like the idea of lose dogs running everywhere and either mine being attacked or mine learning how to attack others. Ruutu is an innocent male right now, he's not reactive or afraid of anything. I'll keep him that way. Honey is reactive and really dislikes other dogs... she'd freak in this situation. Plus, imagine all the dog feces everywhere. We have enough of an issue just in my apartment complex with that and there isn't that many dogs in it. Just sounds like a place for dogs to all catch something. I'd much rather take my dogs to the beach. Though, there are lose dogs there too even though legally not allowed.

Most of the dog parks in my area have a small dog area (25 lbs and under generally speaking) and a big dog area for the labs, retrievers, doodles, etc. Cookie actually likes the dog park when he is in the small dog area. I haven't had any bad experiences with those and although he doesn't play with the other dogs a whole lot, he does love the long spaces for fetch and frisbee and likes to occasionally play one on one chase (not group chase of course).

I haven't really been to the dog park by where I live, but to be honest I really don't see much of a point.. It is always so cold and snowy, and to be honest my dogs have just as much fun in the back yard! Plus, I always have bad experiences with other dogs.. Frankly I would much rather keep mine home..:rolleyes2:

We have several nice dog parks by us, honey enjoys going, and although we have had one bad experience, all the rest have been positive. The owners we usually encounter at them are looking for a chance to play with their dogs, not let them loose, and everyone's really good about picking up after their dogs. Certainly much better than my old apartment complex was!

Dog parks

We have several in our city. The one close to us is very muddy in the lower half, and the yuppies bring their dogs so the owners can drink their lattes and visit. Last time, several dogs kept jumping me to get to the ball my Mac and I were trying to play with. The owners responded that they didn't know why the dogs were so interested as they don't usually play fetch. The other we go to is marginally better as long as the Huskies are not there. The pits and German shepherds are usually no problem. We like the second because there is usually plenty of room at the back side to play fetch without interference. Again, the owners don't monitor their dogs all the time, but they are marginally better than the yuppie park.
