Belle never barks..

its weird! I know she has a voice, but I have only heard her bark one time for her food. when we go on walks, she gets excited when she sees a dog she knows and she does the spin and little dance, but she doesn't bark. if she sees a bike she gets very alert, but never barks. I just don't get it.. thought maybe it might be because she is in the house all the time but our last sheltie was from the same breeder and she was a very big barker as, supposedly, is Belle's sister whom the breeder is keeping.. any thoughts? or maybe I should just be thankful.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth... count your lucky stars... and all those other cliche sayings!!! Holy Hannah!!... a sheltie that doesn't bark... that's like having the goose that layed a golden egg!!! :wink2:

Emma hardly barked until Liam came. She still is not much of a barker, but he is more so. Be glad you don't have a barking Sheltie!

Marlowe doesn't bark much either but he seems to be finding his voice lately. It's still rare that we hear a bark but, compared to previously when he was largely silent, it is more. I was wondering if it was age-related (he is coming up on one year old) when I met another sheltie owner at the dog park whose dog barked non-stop for the 20 minutes they were there. Imagine my horror when she told me he was silent until ~one year old but now barks at everything (TV, phone ringing, microwave beeping, etc.)!!

Do anyone have experience with shelties who bark more as they get older/go through adolescence?

Lexi very rarely barked when she came home. Bentley is a big barker, but she didn't even join in when he got going (when he sees another dog, bike, etc...)

But, now when she gets excited (we come home, she gets dinner, she's at agility) she is a total loud mouth. Definitely didn't start until she was between 7 months and a year old.

I was going to ask how old Belle is- they do seem to become more vocal as they get older. some are way vocal and others are less so

I agree whole heartedly.

Sadie was not much of a barker, but she's definitely grown into her voice, as you can see by the thread I created entitled, "Guard Shelties Who Bark at Every Sound.' :rolleyes2:

Emma didn't hardly bark until she was about 7-8 months old and then it was the funniest, squeakiest bark. She still doesn't bark a lot, unless Liam gets her going and even then it is not a lot. Liam likes to be heard - he seems a typical noisy little boy.
