Belle never barks..

So far, and I'm hesitant to even say this "out loud" for fear of jinxing things, Miko only barks out of excitement and not in reaction to sounds/sights/etc.

He does bark quite a bit... but it's when we play with him, when he plays with other dogs and while I'm preparing his food... oh and sometimes he barks at the cat when he wants the cat to play with him.

We live in a townhouse and I'm worried about him bugging the neighbours, so I would really hate it if he began to bark at every little sound, movement, etc.

He's only 6mos old, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see how things go.

 Trade ya! OMG feel blessed. When the phone rings here Lady acts like a toddler, she wants my attention. Lady barks inside, Lucky out.

Count your blessings.:smile2:

Justice was not a big barker when he was a young dog. My only other dog was a JRT/beagle mix who only barked if there was something to really bark at(ie someone breaking into the house).

Then I got Ember, miss big mouth. Justice still didn't bark much but he got alittle more vocal. Then Diva who is a barker but more when she is excited then Ember's OMG the washer went into the spin cycle bark. But Justice became way more vocal and if both girls barked he joined in just as loud and hard. Sigh. I would give anything somedays to go back to my nice quiet sheltie boy.

Everett too is a non-barker. He is a great back-up barker, supports Miki when people arrive. Barks with excitement when going for walks or getting to see My dad, and occasionally when playing with the ball. A few yips occasionally to announce he wants in but other than that he just watches the daily events with no major concern showing....

Deska didnt bark until Tully came along and found her bark, then he became chronic - he always has to be better than her - and as she left adolescence Tully settled back down. Basically when she hit adolescence she started barking a lot and Deska started his one-up-manship. Mind you Tully influenced quite a lot of his naughty behaviour.

It seems like it's somewhat of an age thing.

Miko didn't make any barks (of any kind for any reason) until he was 1 year old. One day, he just barked. I was sooo grateful it wasn't a yappy bark. Since then, he only barks at noises outside. If he needs to go out, or playing, etc, he rarely barks. (well, I take that back, he does more so now because of our loud mouth other dog). Miko is definitely not a barker. But, when he does bark, it sounds like a big dog. ;)

Koji on the other hand, was always verbal. He whined more than barked in the beginning. And I knew Miko was teaching him a bad habit of barking at knocks on the door, etc. But I had hope. Koji didn't start barking till he was almost 1. Since then, he barks for attention, food, attention, wants to lie on you, attention, going out, attention, someone outside. You get the point.

I'd say, enjoy it. When it was only Miko, I sure didn't enjoy it as much as I do now, hehehe.
