Bitsy Boodle has been diagnosed with elevated alkaline phosphate. The vet found it during routine blood tests prior to a molar extraction a month ago. He recommended we wait a month and retest to see if it was related to the infected molar -- apparently not. She's asymptomatic, so here's what he suspects:
Nodular HyperplasiaHepatic nodular hyperplasia is a benign liver disorder that results in abnormal secretion of alkaline phosphatase in dogs. It is a chronic condition and usually, remains asymptomatic till the final stages. Hence, an early diagnosis of nodular hyperplasia is very difficult in most cases.
She's on medication and he'll retest in another month.
Please say a little prayer that this is the problem and not Cushings. We're on the watch for increased water intake -- so far, not a problem!
