Brand new sheltie owner

So I am a brand new owner of a tri-colored sheltie named Russell. He's only 11 weeks old (as of today) but it's an exciting time. We lost our dog Rondo on Halloween and our remaining dog has been very depressed (and clingy) since then.

We ended up with getting a sheltie on the last day of 2018 and I have been educating myself since then. So far so good, as he is a happy, active, albeit somewhat knuckle-headed, little puppy. He's stolen our hearts and we've already seen a change in mood of our older dog. Looking forward to many years of happiness with our new pup.

What a cutie Russell is!
I am sure he is just happy to hang out with his new pack! Is your older dog a King Charles Spaniel?
I am sure your home will be happy and exciting now! Enjoy and welcome to Sheltie Nation!

Condolences on the recent loss of Rondo.

Thank you for the kind words. As for darla, she’s actually a cocker spaniel. We keep her hair fairly short so there is always confusion about her breed.

I feel like a brand new parent with Russell but he’s a lot of fun. Looking forward to him transforming into his Sheltie self down the road. He extremely playful right now. Want me to chase him around all the time.

The training is coming along. He’s not sleeping all the way through the but between my wife (who sleeps and wakes up earlier) and I we make it work. Still trying to get him to figure out the doggie door. I think he knows what it is but is a bit cautious and doesn’t seem quite strong enough to push it and go through. Patience.
