Buffy was attacked.

That is quite the story.....

I feel for the owner who probably made the right decision to give up her dog....but how heartbreaking that must have been for her. I have to give her credit for making this move.

And I'm sorry, of course, that your pup was injured as a result. I don't know about dog bites on dogs, but I do know that dog bites on humans can often go septic. Keep an eye on her wounds, as I know you will.

This just reminds me of caution of having dogs off-leash. I do walk my dogs off-leash and I always hope that we can have a walk without meeting another dog. For exactly this reason.

I expect that if I came into this situation, I would be a fighter myself. It makes me wonder whether or not I should carry a cane or something when I walk the dogs. We also have fox roaming around as well.

I just wanted to share.... I found out the other owner relinquished her ACD today. Gosh, now I feel bad... :( She has been through four obedience classes and not seen anything like this before from her dog.

Dont beat yourself up about the other owner. It sounds as though she may have already had problems and this was the final straw. Its why rescues organisations need to be really careful about matching up dogs. We have a lot of ACDs here so its pretty well known about the aggression problems they can have, maybe the owner just didnt know what she was getting into. It is very fortunate then Buffy wasnt hurt even more.
 
Glad to hear the owner did the right thing and they will find a new home for the dog. How is Buffy and how is Toffee doing?
I have a neighbor that was bit by her dog very badly a month or so ago- the dog did have issues but loved her family but out of the blue one day it attacked her and was bit on her arm, and had to go to rehab and will have surgery to take a tendon out of her finger and will be put in her thumb. She also had to have skin grafts on her arm.
They did have to have the dog put down, turns out it had health issues too. You just never know what a dog will do.
 
Oh dear, I'm so sorry to hear about Buffy! But I'm glad she's recovering from the ordeal (as are you I hope!)

I've been around dogs that got bitten before and it happens reeeally quickly and you must really have thought about what you'd do when such things happen! I remember once someone tried to pull the dog away and someone else (obviously more level headed) said not to or the wound would be worse and prying the biting dog off would be better. I don't know if I would have thought of that!

I've had Juliet chased by dogs with the predatory stare before and when I picked her up, this one darn dog got her tail. (thankfully my girl wasn't hurt and she's a fighter!) The owner didn't think anything of it and was all huffy and indignant. I wanted to slap her. Juliet's also been snapped at and chased by this one border collie. That freaked her out abit, though she was fast enough to get by without a scratch and now she will actually back away from a border collie.

Romeo got 2 puncture wounds and some scratches when he was younger from a JRT but I didn't even KNOW until a few days later!!! He didn't yelp or cry when he was bitten. I only realised when I was touching him and felt the scabs and took him to the vet to figure out what the heck that was. I figured it was the JRT he was annoying coz I was videotaping his interaction with the JRT at the dogrun the weekend just before I discovered the wounds. It was quite a deep puncture. Romeo amazes me sometimes - he'll cry like a baby if he trips over concrete but when he's bitten he acts all macho :lol:

You really should watch the wound and clean it out well. Romeo's one got abit infected coz I didn't know it was there (on his back) and he had to take antibiotics.
 
We went to the final class this weekend. There were only 3 dogs there including Buffy, and the other two are big goofs. We started with 5, minus and ACD and another absence. Buffy was super happy to see the trainer and I think the trainer was happy to see her in one piece since she called several times this week to check on us.

Buffy was pretty distracted most of class and did not want to go anywhere near the Lab. I think it's because she was coming toward him (to me) when she was attacked, so she associates him with the whole incident even though he had nothing to do with it. Last week they did a series of "comes" next to each other in opposite directions. She may not have even seen the ACD coming since that happened so fast and the ACD was just quietly observing. We didn't really make her go outside of her comfort zone unless she chose to, so there was a bit of ineffective cajoling throughout class while Buffy was being Alert Doggie.

At the end of class we let them all loose on the dog beach nearby. We had a minor issue there because a large dog decided he wanted to play and Buffy made it clear she didn't with a bit of yipping and snarling, but she was just being a drama queen. She was totally fine with normal "greets." Anyway, all's well that ends okay. Buffy's doing fine on antibiotics and healing quickly. I appreciate all the good thoughts!
