Bumping his head

I am fairly new to shelties. I have only had my boy for a year now and recently adopted a second sheltie puppy. There are many behaviors I have noticed that none of the other breeds of dog's I'm familiar with ever exhibited.

Is it just my sheltie, or do they not seem to realize they have such a long nose? Buddha is very excitable, he makes very sudden movements and a lot of the times he will hit his head against whatever is right next to him. Of course he doesn't do it so hard that he injures himself, but when I accidentally hit my head against things, and it doesn't happen often, I get really annoyed feeling haha

Do your shelties sometimes bump their long snouts against things or is there maybe something wrong with Buddha's eyesight? Can't think of anything else that could be wrong with him : /
 
My Chloe does this a lot. She spins around really fast and bangs into something quite often when she gets too excited. At least once she has clipped her nose hard enough that she has gotten a little swollen bump on it.
 
Both my boys follow me everywhere, but Ryder walks in front of me with his head turned backwards, so he often bumps into things.
 
Toby used to do that a lot. Toby had issues with anxiety so I think in his hurry to whip his head around quickly he'd forget his nose was long and smack it into things. Since we've gotten control of his anxiety he doesn't seem to do it nearly as often.

When we first got him a little over a year ago he was always trying to cuddle into us with his head. Often I'd lean down to kiss his snout just as he'd whip it up in the air so often he's smack me in the forehead or I'd get a snout in the eye or ear. But again, this hardly ever happens anymore. This behavior used to crack me up, he just seemed so uncoordinated. :lol:

You should probably have your sheltie's eyes checked out just to be safe. Toby had his eyes tested by the rescue when we got him, or else I would have had them checked. :smile2:
 
Clumsy shelties

Funny you should mention this because we have three and our Zoey (the blue merle) doesn't seem to pay attention to her surroundings like the other two. She'll turn quickly and smack her snout into a door frame or table leg. Again not enough to hurt herself, but I have to wonder what she's thinking.

I can echo with Danielle! Our Jasper is a spinner.And if he goes into spin mode,once he stops he is usually heading somewheres. And he been known to bump his nose on a kitchen cabinet on his way out of the kitchen. He has bumped into a chair before during his excitement. Just to funny!
 
This thread is too funny and cute. I guess these are the joys of owning long nosed breed dogs.

I can honestly say that my shelties have NEVER fail to make me smile on a daily basis, no matter what. :smile2:
