Niagara Falls NY/Southern Ontario Sheltie Meet Up!

Trying to gauge interest and see if there are enough interested people.

Date: Late August, Early September, 2011

Thinking of having it at Charles Daily Park,

  • 25-30 minute from Niagara Falls NY border
  • 40-45 minutes from the Buffalo NY Border
  • 1-1.5 hrs. from Toronto
  • 1.5-2 hrs. from London On.

Here are a couple of the park web sites, they're not the best so you'll have to take my word for it that the park is gorgeous. Lots of space for shelties, good parking, free and well away from traffic.

Wow. I really thought there would be some interested people. I thought there would be more people from the States that would be interested in coming to this, but I guess I'm the only crazy person who'll consider driving 6 hours for a sheltie get together. :no:

I'm driving 10 hours for the southern sheltie gathering:yes:.
You are a little off my beaten path- maybe if I was visiting the folks in PA, but adding 5 hours to 18- that would still be a little far.:winkgrin:

I would definitely do it if it were within a 7 hour drive...so don't feel too crazy!

Also, you may want to wait before you give up since a lot of the northeast sheltie people are at the National.

I don't think you or anyone else is crazy for driving that far. I'm sure everyone who can't make it has a good reason why they won't or can't drive that far.

For me, I have never driven that far. As a kid with my parents I have, but not since I've had my license. I have a very short attention span. I honestly don't think I can drive for that long and I don't think Bailey can relax comfortably for 7 hours. She gets very antsy and whiny after only an hour in the car. I would have to tranquilize her or play with her for 3 hours straight to really tire her out.
I don't have the money right now to take off work. I don't have personal days. I also won't have the money for gas, food and hotel expenses. I am moving into my own apartment in May. That means I have to start paying rent. :eek2: I may not even have enough money for agility classes after I move. If I wasn't moving, then I would be able to afford a trip.
My last reason is that I am afraid to take Bailey on trips longer than two hours. I don't feel comfortable staying over night with her so far from home. At the meet up last June, she threw up on the ride home and had bloody diarrhea, vomiting and refused to eat less than 8 hours after we left. What would I do if this happened and I am 7 hours away from my vet or if she got really sick on the drive? I'm just very paranoid about traveling with her after that happened.

I'm sorry. I really wish I could go. I'd love to meet everyone. I just don't feel comfortable enough to drive 7 hours with Bailey.
 
For all of you that its too far, don't worry about it, I understand.

I'll just make it a local sheltie party and throw it in my yard instead.

We have driven to Toronto many times (relatives there), and it is about an 11 hours drive from here. That is the only reason we won't come, wish we could.
