Has anyone tried the Calming Collar for dog anxiety? http://www.calmingcollars.com

We adopted our 4 year old sheltie six months ago, and although he has made amazing progress, he still seems to struggle with serious anxiety issues.

We often wonder about the quality of his life before adopted, but can only move forward and do our best to make him happier.
 
I personally have never heard of this, but it does sort of remind me of the "Thundershirt"! If it works, I would love to hear stories about it
 
I've never tried the collar, but I tried a number of different herbal things that are similar with some success.

I've found that it really depends on how bad your dog's anxiety is and what's causing it.

If your dog has severe anxiety, herbals likely won't do much more than take the edge off.

The Thundershirt is REALLY good for anxiety, btw. Sounds gimmicky but for most its a life saver.

I have heard mixed results about the Thundershirt. One person on Facebk told me when she puts it on her dog, her dog began to associate the shirt with, "oh something scary must be getting ready to happen that's why momma is putting this one me". Therefore after awhile it lost it's effectiveness.

Perhaps timing of when the shirt is put on makes a difference :confused2:

I've never found that. I put one on Toby when he's stressed about a Thunderstorm. Calms him down every time, whether I put it on before or during the storm. Although every dog is different and they don't work for everyone, I've read more positive stories about Thundershirts than negative.
 
I haven't tried this but I do use a magnet therapy collar on Barkley that was made for him. It's recommended for nervous/anxious/reactive dogs and it is the only thing that has worked for him. He looks for me to put it on him in the morning now and it has helped to some extent.

I have a Thundershirt and it didn't work for us on various dogs.
 
Don't know what's in the collar - maybe the same as the magnetic collar that Ann mentions. These and herbal remedies (and we do sell them at my store) - I've yet to form an opinion on them.

But the principle behind the Thundershirt is very different. Think of it as swaddling a baby - same idea. I've heard great success, but mostly from this forum.

So far, noone who has bought a thundershirt from my store has returned it. That's positive.

Idea behind the collar deserves consideration, there are calming herbs, like lavender that will have calming effect of senses of humans and dogs. The DESCRPITION of the collar is total BS. WTH the mean under PRECISE MEASURED amounts of herbs? for what ? for sniffing? what kind of !@#$ would write that?
Some dogs are sensitive to smells and I would not put collar stuffed with herbs on their neck just like that, although I would try and use some aromatherapy if you need for anxiety. I do use essential oils applications on my dogs,

there are some mixes one can get and I find them very helpful, but you only need a tiniest amount of it like a drop on your hand to apply to the dog hair.

It is possible I suppose, application of Tshirt becomes predictor of bad things coming. Classical conditioning as per Pavlov's bells. I think it is very rare for T shirt and that particular person did not apply it right though.
