Can't trim Olive's nails!

I trim, but very little off at a time. I have to admit whimpy me, I will take the two down to the vets, and they trim the nails for me alot of the times.

Lucky and Lil' Lady both have black toe nails, so it makes it hard. Before I get teased. LOL, no they don't have dirty nails.
 
The only one that would (or does) is Jasper. I think he is really ticklish. He does'nt struggle like yours,but he will not let me hold his foot,and pulls it away. I don't give in,I have a fairly good hold on his paw,and I clearly make it known,I will win.
He gives in,and knows treats are forth coming. Sometimes Brian will lend a hand,but he usually is just a distraction and just sweet talks Jasper into letting "mommy" trim it quick.

I still to this day use fingernail clippers on the boys,as well as Mia. Thier nails are not tough,and I find I can get them much quicker & shorter.

I did Blake last night after his bath..ooowee..he is a dream to do anything with.He nearly went to sleep when I did re-glue of his ears this morning.

I know it may sound silly,but I have used a small flashlight,and put it behind the nail bed,you can clearly see the quick.
 
I have had success with the peanut butter method....swab a little in the roof of their mouth, keeps mine entertained and not even thinking about their toes just trying to get it off the roof of their mouth. Now saying that....none of mine ever struggled to that degree, so I am not sure how it would work.

My boy had black nails. I used a Miller Forge Pet Nail Clipper with Safety Stop Bar, to take off just a little bit of nail at a time. After the first clip, if you look at the cut end of the nail, it is all white inside. As you approach the quick, a grey dot appears in the middle of the white area. My motto was "when you see the dot, it's time to stop" (clipping).

( I clipped my boy's nails while he was laying on his side. )
 
Make sure your clipper is sharp.

A dull clipper crushes the nail slightly before it cuts. We change clippers often at work because they get such a work out, you can tell when they are getting dull as the animals react more and the ends looks ragged.

I have a safety bar, but like I said I am a whimp. Yep I just cut a little at a time, have to look really good for that white inside.

The clipper is sharp, it has a lever that can be set to limit how much nail is taken off so you can't accidentally cut off a long piece, and I am adept at using it. Olive, however, still isn't having any of it, even though she's never been hurt during nail clipping. We finally gave up and had the vet do it. It took two people, but finally she just gave up and let them do it. We couldn't get her to give up and were afraid we might hurt her trying to restrain her. It's just the strangest thing; this behavior came out of nowhere. Well, it did start after her spay, but I can't imagine that had anything to do with it as her nails weren't clipped during that visit to the vet. :confused2: I really don't want to have to take her to the vet every time she needs her nails clipped...:no:

I lot of the pet store grooming places will do it, you don't need to do a full groom, just a quick nail trim. I have a pet store near me, Especially for Pets (I'm not sure how wide spread they are) that does nails for a $7 donation to what ever pet charity they are collecting for at the time. They rotate among different rescue groups and shelters.

I have a horrible time with one of my dogs, so I do that with her. I don't mind it so much when it is a donation to an animal charity.

I am going to try the peanut butter on the roof of the mouth trick that someone mentioned with her though.
