Chandler has had 4 B12 shots so far and we will test his levels again on Weds. He still is turning away from his dog food but I have gotten him to eat a few nibbles of meat here and there. I was becoming hopeful during the week because a few times he got a little burst of energy and started running around the dining room table with Gypsy. I think they call it Sheltie Tag and Zoom Game. He even got a little frisky with her. Which she wasn't very happy about but he was kind of like his old self for a bit. His stool has been soft but lastnight he started with really bad diarrhea. Unfortunately my vet is away this weekend
but I did have some Flagyl on hand so I started him on that this morning and luckily have enough to get me through to Monday morning. I came across some more information on the internet lastnight about pancreatitis and apparently this can be causing his body not to absorb the B12 properly. Another reason for B12 deficiency can be cancer which as you know the vet suspects possible brain cancer due to the spinal stroke. If it's cancer they become b12 deficient because the cancer is absorbing it to thrive basically. So I will just continue to keep an eye on him and make sure he stays hydrated while continuing his food boycott, keep him as comfortable as possible and hope he'll recover from all this and surprise us all. I know it's unlikely if he continues like this but none of us want to think about losing our babies so I block out those thoughts and try to enjoy every second I have with him. Monday I'll call the vet and let him know Chandler hasn't felt to good this weekend and take it from there.
