We lost our wonderful rescue Sheltie Charlie on Saturday morning Nov. 3. He was an estimated 13 years old. He had a rough life up until 2008, when we got him. He was a resident of a cruel puppy mill/kennel with 250 other dogs, and he lived that part of his life outside in a cage, with very little shelter. The place was raided in August 2007, and all of the dogs were taken for care. Charlie had dental problems, and skin issues, but the vet was able to clear it up. We obtained Charlie from Granite State Sheltie Rescue, for a companion for our Princess, who sadly went to The Rainbow Bridge the next year. He was a very nervous little guy, and did not handle the loss of Princess well. We were able to provide him with some new Sheltie friends, who brought out his shyness, and he became a very loving dog, and wanted to not hide in his "safe spot" anymore.
Two days before Christmas last year, he suffered a spinal stroke, which left him partially parylized in his left rear leg. He didn't let it slow him down, he still could move!
Sadly, late this past week, he started to act strange, not wanting to eat his food, but would take water. We noticed that he had a hard time drinking on Friday night. Saturday morning, he took water, I put him out to go to the bathroom, he looked like he was losing control of his rear end. He made it partially up the ramp, and collapsed. I got him up into the house, and he laid in the kitchen as we called the vet. I went to get him to take him in, and he had gone. Fortunately, he didn't suffer.
I hope that you found your buddy Princess, and that you are free of all the emotional suffering you had in the first years of your life.
