chocolate lab..

a couple of days ago when Belle and I were going for her afternoon walk, we met up with the most gorgeous chocolate lab! I have not seen one "in the flesh" before, and his color was truly amazing! rich and dark, looked good enough to eat  He was 11 months old and a lot for his owner to handle, but Belle really liked him although he was a lot bigger than her.. apparently he had torn a ligament in his back leg playing in the dog park with bigger dogs and was on the mend but you wouldn't have known that from the way he was acting. and when he left Belle actually barked! after I posted the other day that she never barks.. she wanted him to stay longer, I guess because she hasn't barked since then.

So nice that there are "friendly" dogs for Belle to "talk" to! How was the dog's owner? Once he is all better, it might be good to build both of the dogs' confidence by letting them play together.

My sister has a choc. named Tobin she is a beauty she was Miss July in the Choc Lab. calendar. Beautiful pic on the beach.
I would definitely try to meet up with them again since Belle seemed to enjoy their meeting so much.

thanks for your replies.. the dog's owner was a woman, I haven't seen them before but they probably live nearby.. I hope I run into them again but this dog is much too much for Belle to play with.. too big and bold. his paws could knock her over. There is a basenji where we live that she really likes and gets along with. hopefully they will be able to play together once she gets her stitches out tomorrow.

My parents have a 120lb black lab that is best friends with my sheltie Sig. They are adorable together and play so rough! Its crazy to me how such a little dog can put up such a fight! and with a dog that out weighs him six times over! He is always depressed for days when he has to leave his friend :(

Glad to hear her stitches will be out tomorrow. I am sure you are happy all this is just about over and things will be back to normal soon.

yes I am! I've been with Belle 24 hours a day since her surgery, haven't left the house except for her regular walks. it will be nice to be able to do some shopping again..

My Paladin seems to love labs, maybe they are both high energy? We had one that was his age and the pups used to play together in the morning while the kids were waiting for the school bus. He had a lab in his dog training class also, they both were nuts! Good for the dogs to socialize and be friends!

Well you know my feelings on choc labs!! Best colour of all the labs!

Cadbury loves shelties, he is a lot gentler with small dogs than big dogs, fortunately. But Cadbury is a softie. But they are notorious for doing themselves injuries! They just crash about and don't think!

Still, I adore them and there will always be a choccie in my life (along with a sheltie:wink2:)
