I always looked at it that the rationale is that the command is SIT "sit, sit, sit sit" so the dog thinks it's the 4th's command to respond to, lol

Repeating the cue apparently also dilutes its effectiveness. And the dog learns to ignore the word eventually.
I gotta admit I find it a little hard sometimes not to repeat the word again. It's a primate thing!

Yes, repeating the cue does dilute it and then the dog basically learns that he/she does not have to obey on the first cue. It apparently is like 'nagging' to them and they learn to tune you out. All the instructors I've known all say to say it once and that is it. I admit, it is hard sometimes 
From now on I will try to say it only once. 
Most of the time he does do it the first time I ask. I was outside, and I was pleased he even did it with the "evil kitty from next door" on stand by. 
I did just upload a video of Smudge doing "leave it". I said leave it about three times. Next time I'll try only saying it once. He's so sneaky with the treats! The first time I tried "leave it" I turned around and heard a crunch. He ate the treat! ROTFL! It's hard to outsmart a thief! He is doing much better at it, but I need to train myself to say the word only once...and ignore the cuteness.
There was a terrible line of storms that rolled through earlier, and I'm having problems with my internet. I can't get my video to show, but I will post it as soon as my internet quits being funky.

It turns out it's not my internet that was being funky! Somehow the java got disabled. I changed it back and PRESTO! I'm too lazy to deal with the video since it's getting late so here is a photo of Smudge and his "leave it" trick. It's a work in progress!

The Lady I know from the dogpark with the clickerleash says imagine an invisible tape over your mouth when you're training lol... I can imagine many people wishing this upon me on other occassions?
