Cody was bitten by neighbors dog

We have a spread with 20 acres or so and when walking Cody on leach at the property line a large dog maybe 60 or more lbs confronted us and barked and growled. Cody wanted to protect and defend but I was pulling him back behind me and trying to scare the dog off by kicking it and yelling. The neighbor called it back and so I did not think anything more about it until later I discovered that Cody had some dried in blood behind his head. Apparently the dog in the commotion managed to get in a bite. There were two puncture wounds and it was pretty much healed. Anyone else have some similar stories?

Yikes that's scary! Good thing Cody was on leash or it could've ended much differently. You might want to get a vet check on those punctures, they can be much worse under the skin than they actually look.
Hopefully Cody wasn't affected by the attack...he's a brave boy!
Thank heavens I've never had anything bad happen on a walk, short of an unleashed dog rushing Piper and Riley. The owner was close behind (although not close enough) and as I kept him away the owner called him back. Choice words were spoken to the owner of course!

The wounds are completely healed now. The bite was hard to spot because his fur in the neck area is as you know very thick. But Cody is Ok and it does not seem to have changed him in any way.
I had another incident with the same dog last week and this time I did not have Cody with me. Checking on the tree plantings on the property line the same dog and 2 other dogs came running and confronted me. Looked like they were going to attack. The owner came out of the house and yelled at them and that saved me. Called animal control for the county and they came out to talk to the owner. Hopefully that will resolve it

I’m very sorry you had such a scary experience!! Glad Cody is ok.

My first Sheltie, Noel, got attacked by a Pointer about a week after I adopted her. I was walking her on leash, and the Pointer rushed out of its unfenced yard, jumped on her and started biting. Fortunately her fur saved her and she had no injuries.

Noel and I were at agility class one time, and an Aussie escaped from its owner and charged towards us. I had Noel on leash, and was standing in front of her crate waiting for our turn. I did not know the dog, but didn’t like it’s expression so I shoved Noel into the crate, stood in front of it, and grabbed the Aussie’s collar (I know, good way to get bitten but I didn’t have time to do much). Afterwards I was told the dog was aggressive and would probably have attacked Noel. I was very careful around that dog after that. And, no, the dog was not supposed to be off leash.

Fast thinking Elei! Unfortunately these things happen all the time at dog shows and matches! I had several incidents with Piper when walking near other dogs. I learnt to pay close attention and keep a very tight leash!

In this area where we live most have places with large areas of land and no fences so dogs are free to roam. In most cases the dogs stay on their home turf and if they stray they are friendly.
But in this case the neighbors dog considers the neighborhood his to defend. The neighbor had installed one of those underground electric lines to shock but the dog runs through it like nothing. The dog crossed over another neighbors land in order to get into our property. Talking to the neighbor in the past did not change anything so that is why calling county animal control was the right thing to do before more serious injuries to people and animals. The county aggressive dog laws are enforced here so if it continues the consequences can be pretty severe for the dog owner.
We have a fenced area where Cody can run free and exercise but outside the fenced area I always keep him on leash. There is always a chance that Cody would chase a rabbit or deer.
