We've noticed that Willow is getting darker as she gets older. Is this a continuing phenomenon or something that stops at a certain age?

Benson darkened up some but he seems to have stopped-he was REALLY light at age 1. Fillion never got much shading. Koko was pretty dark but he seems to have gotten lighter with old age.

My Harley was the other way and got lighter as he got older.

The folks who've been on here longer may remember back about eight years when Layla's ears inexplicably started turning white. She remained Princess Snow Ears for a couple-three years. Then they turned brown again. So who knows?

Yep the white ear tips were beautiful, far more than the picture.
Spitfire was bright orange as a pup and darkened but has stopped changing for the most part anymore.

Elijah came at a year old and is now 3 1/2 . He has definitely gotten darker but I would say he's stayed the same now for the last 9 months or so. I do think the sables tend to darken up for a couple of years. It will be interesting to see how Meadow's coat goes - she is still really blonde but the few dark areas are getting darker.

This is normal at Willow's age. Her real adult coat is probably coming in. That happens later with sables than other colors, and some don't really mature coat-wise until between 3 and 4. Once her coat is fully grown in, she won't get any darker, but what you're seeing is that process happening now.

Piper became a rich mahogany when he turned 3, before that he was a mousy brown. Finnie got a wee bit darker, more of a toffee colour but not as much of a change compared to Piper.
