Comin in heat

Hello, I am wondering at what age can I look for Dixie to come in heat,and should you have them fixed before then or after the first time.Thanks
 
I had Emma fixed at 7 months, before her heat, because of the contract with the breeder. Natalie came into heat around 9 months and I had her spayed after her heat, as I didn't get her until then. The breeder was planning on having her spayed around then any way.

It depends on the lines I think as to when they come into heat. Check with the breeder as to when her girls had their heats.
 
We had Shelby fixed at 6 mos before her 1st heat. Our vet recomended prior to. I have heard pros and cons to both before and after. My mom has a bulloxer and her vet recomended spaying at 4 mos.
 
Most shelties in my experience come into their first season around 8-10months give or take. With my personal dogs Diva came in at 8 months and Ember at 14 months.

Unless you are prepared for the mess and PITA of a season the best time is about 6-7months. If you can deal with a season than around a year or at least 3 months after the cycle. Personal discussion.

Dealing with Diva's season here right now and she is on day 3 and I am really tired of it already. :lol: It lasts 3 weeks and if you are not prepared to monitor them every second of that time outside the house or around intact males, please spay her before hand.
