Confession of a secret yeller

I can yell at my kids, can yell at my husband, but I rarely yell at my pets. The one or two times I have yelled at Brodie - one time I remember for barking and one time when he was younger and when to poo in the house - he knew it was directed at him and I think the shock of it being directed at him stopped him in his tracks.
 
I love all of these stories!! We all love our shelties and want to be positive as possible. But, we are human and have our moments.

I know we do need to employ Glenn’s methods when it comes to the sliding glass door and Mindy. So many triggers...first, the latch, then the sliding noise and movement, then the screen moving and making noise, then someone going outside! Add the grill in there and you’d think the world was coming to an end!

Of course, once we were out there last night with burgers cooking and Mindy on her dad’s lap she was calm as could be. :)
 
I was walking Gavin near the Ocean and it was a hot day. I let him off leash to go in and get wet and cool down without dragging me in. silly boy wanted to play.
It wasn't a dog beach so I yelled 'Gavin get your but over here you are not supposed to be playing' so loud other people looked at me. They were impressed he came right to me :)

It's the tone that does it. he knew I meant business.
 
yes! YES! Sometimes I yell. Okay every day during wolfing hour. River gets so wound up, and even if we go outside to run around and play he can't settle down. I can even feel his muscles are tight because he is so tense. That's when my parrot starts yelling before he settles in to sleep, and River jumps up and down at the TV. I yell HEY! Settle down that's enough! And God forbid if a fly gets in...hysteria. Sometimes the parrot even says, "I have a fly," because one year they were getting in through the chimney and wood stove and we had one every few minutes for like a week. Please don't ever let that happen again. I'm glad I'm not the only one who loses it. Oh, and 99% of the time River is very well trained and wants to do the right thing, it's just something about that time of night before he settles in to sleep.
 
I admit I yelled at Kip yesterday.. he snuck out the door and dashed across the yard at top speed. I was so horrified (because of his hurt toe) that I just yelled “No!” But it was really more an exclamation of dismay - not really aimed at Kip. Fortunately he did not seem to notice me, so no harm done. I still felt bad about it, and I hope he didn’t set back his toe!

Hahaha! Oh, no, a talking bird and a Sheltie?! You are a brave woman. I can only imagine how that would go around here.
 
The bird constantly tries to boss River around who completely ignores his commands. River is an AKC titled trick dog so my bird heard us working on tricks all the time. "Paws up!" for some reason is one of his favorite phrases. Sometimes we go in the birds room where River likes to put on a show. If River gets over excited the bird says, "doooooown." Also the bird does a dead ringer sheltie bark, and then he says..."quiet...I don't want all that barking!" He calls River all the time in a sweet voice, and sometimes shortens his name to "Ver"

OMG this is HILARIOUS! I'd love to be a fly on the wall in your house!
