Sweetie coughing

Hi,my #2 sheltie "Bobby" developed a hacking cough when he was ten years old.It was especially bad at night when he was lying down in his crate. After numerous tests & x-rays it turned out that his cough was due to congestive heart failure(CHF).CHF is not curable but it is treatable as Bobby went on to live to the age of fourteen. Please keep us informed as to how you make out with Sweetie.Blue Skies-Cody,Wendy & Cole

Run, don't walk to your vet!

I don't want to alarm you, but I made the serious mistake of ignoring my forever pup's cough too long. He was 12 and had developed a tumour in his chest. The day the diagnosis was made was the day he died. It was too late. He seemed normal in all respects, except for a little arthritis.

Then one day, out of the blue, he started to wheeze and gasp for air. Rushed him to the vet, had a chest xray done and they found the tumour. Within the hour he died.

I don't know that I would have put him through treatment at his age, but I never got the chance to make the decision.

Sweetie has been coughing and I am worried. She is not acting sick . At first I thought it was hair as she was shedding. I I am taking her to see her doctor but am worried. She is 9 years old all shots are current . I have listened to her heart and lungs. Sounds strong and clear but there is a wheeze near her throat. She hacks and nothing comes up. She has been healthy but I am wondering about CHF. I know I shouldnt have read things that do nothing but worry me but I like to be informed on things. I am hoping its just a cold but something just dont seem right. None of my other furkids are sick. What do you all think. Please if anyone has a older sheltie that has been coughing give me insite.

How is Sweetie feeling? what did the vet say?

My chihuahua just went to the vet and her coughing is because of a post nasal drip. They did an xray and the lungs her are clear. She doesn't have a cold or any heart issues. thank goodness. The vet said half a zyrtec allergy pill will help her.

Per Barbs post I ran to the vet and Sweetie has Pneumonia. She was tight and you couldnt hear it well but x-ray told all. She is staying at the vets tonight for further observation and breathing treatments. She is doing well all things considered. Vet has not ruled out CHF as maybe why the pnuemonia devoloped re to much fluid build up. Im keeping fingers crossed ! Well...Im off to see My Sweetie! Ill update later!!! Thanks all
