Very interesting about the natural flea product. Did you see any fleas at all when using it?

Nope, like I said, I've been dealing with fleas since last summer. She was never infested, but there was always a few on her everytime she had a bath. I'd pull off 5 or 6.
Anyways, I was using other products (store bought) and nothing was working, so I tried this cause I like the idea of the natural and since using it I haven't seen 1 flea on her.
Now, be warned, it does smell strongly. Like cloves mainly. Not as bad as the chemicals, but still

i use frontline plus and never have a problem i also spray my lawn down with bug spray once a month.

I personally use Frontline Plus and Sentinel. I can't recall why I went back to Sentinel (after having used Interceptor for some time). I do like that it basically makes adult fleas sterile, and I know it works from previous experience. However, Frontline Plus seems to be working well too. Not one flea on either dog.
Wish kennel cough was as easy to keep away.
As for the safety of Frontline Plus, I asked my vet how they did testing and how safe is it. Because when I first got Koji, Miko would have his mouth all over his neck (where you put the stuff). Sadly, the vet told me that they fed vials of the stuff directly to puppies. Not so sadly, aka good, they weren't affected at all. Miko never got sick from chewing on Koji's neck, so I felt it was "safe". On the other hand, I'd worry he'd get sick from all the oils in the "natural" one. lol. I guess I'm all for science and believe that nature created the most poisonous poisons in the world, not humans. That's just me though.

I dont use any flea control. I am not too fond of putting pesticides on my dogs especially when I have young kids hugging on them. for heartworm i have always used heart guard. I asked the vet about shelties and sensitivity to certin heart worm meds, he said it is fine for them to take it. he said that in the studies done 1 collie died after he was feed 100 times the recommended amount. I have used heart guard for over 15 years on collie type breeds with no ill effects.

The natural one is interesting. It looks like it's safer than some of the other natural varieties out there. Synthetic Pyrethrin is in others, which is toxic to dogs.
A word of caution though... I'd be careful in using this on cats. I've read that Peppermint oil and Thyme oil are toxic for cats. I've also read all essential oils are bad to give cats, as their bodies don't metbolize essential oils, that they end up staying in the body and building up.
Also, it may not so much be the oils in this that help, as it is the Isopropyl Myristate. If it works the same way on fleas as it does lice, then it may be the ingredient that's killing the fleas.

You are definitely doing the best for your sheltie. Natural products and oils are always preferable to chemicals and if you find one that works wonderfully for your dog, go for it! I use Advantage. I have used Revolution but found it did not work well. Luckily, there are no heartworms here so I don't have to use heartworm meds yet.
I'm glad you're brave enough to stick to your guns and do what you know is best, not just believe everything your vet says. My vet's recommendations for foods are totally ignored by me but she is an awesome vet when it comes to most other things

I was sure that Revolution was an all-in-one. If not, I'll have to talk to my Vet in the spring and perhaps switch over. I definitely want the pups to be free of both fleas, ticks and heartworm risk.

I had a friend who used it on her dogs for a while as in all-in-one. but she recently switched to interceptor for heartworms- the vet told her that the revolution wouldn't protect them from that. maybe they changed the formula? seems like everything else is being changed.

Sentinel® Flavor Tabs® are the Interceptor all in one... protects from heartworms and takes care of the fleas. I've used it before... but, it is a bit pricey.
