Couple Questions

I checked the Novartis site to read about Sentinal Flavor Tabs and there's nothing there that indicates it also takes care of ticks. Because we live in an area where there are plenty of ticks, we use K9 Advantix which takes care of fleas, ticks and mosquitoes and Interceptor which we use to prevent heartworm; it also removes/controls roundworm, whipworm, and hookworm infection. It would be great to use only one product, but I'd be concerned about the tick situation.

We're in the same boat as Jan. I use Interceptor plus Advantix for two of mine, and Interceptor/Frontline (not the Plus, the regular one) for my little girl with canine epilepsy. We have a terrible tick problem and several of my dogs have had Lyme disease so we have no choice. I used to use Sentinel but my vet recommended Interceptor so we made the switch to that. I haven't had any problems with either, and they seem to be effective. Whatever you use, don't administer them together. I give the Interceptor the first of the month, and the spot-on on the 15th, so there's lots of time in between.

Ann - I never thought about not giving the Interceptor and the K9 Advantix at the same time, but I'm going to start doing what you do and give them two weeks apart. Also, did your little epi-girl have a problem with Advantix and that's why you're using Frontline? Spencer hasn't had any reaction to the Advantix even after being diagnosed so I'm still using it.

I didn't even realize there were other epi-sheltie owners in here. My boy is an epi-boy. Although, we went the non-medication route, we are now about 30 weeks of being seizure free!!

I love revolution. I am using frontline right now (because it's easy accessible at the store) and having NO-LUCK! :dead: I think I may call a local vet to where we live now and see if I can pick some revolution up.

You guys have me thinking now!

I've only used Revolution several years ago to treat my first Sheltie who had mange. Since they can't take the typical treatment (ivermectin which is toxic to Shelties, Collies, Border Collies) I had to treat her with Revolution a bunch of times.

My vet suggested Frontline for Pixie, Jan, because I didn't want to put her on anything chemical but we have such a tick problem here. He said it was the one treatment that was least likely to bring on seizures. So far, so good with that. The ticks, however, not so much. I got Lyme disease last spring from a deer tick Pixie carried in and dropped on my bed. I used to find them in the morning, ugh. Thankfully she didn't get it, but Barkley did, and he was on Advantix. I'm not sure how effective any of the treatments are. We don't give the Lyme vaccine either since it never worked on my dogs and only masks the test for Lyme.

Is your non-medication route for the seizures, Amac? We've been very lucky. Pixie has only had minor seizures and we treat her strictly with prescription homeopathics which has been very effective. It cut her seizure rate to a tenth of what it was. I'm not sure how well it works for pups with grand mal though. We have a few people with epi-Shelties in the Forum. I'm pretty sure there are some threads under Health about it with some good reference sources.

Try an internet site like Allivet (http://www.allivet.com/Revolution-p/25916.htm)
my vet ordered all our meds for us at a vastly reduced cost. some vets will give you the prescription and you can order online yourself. :smile2:
