crying

I'm lying in bed listening to Percy cry. If I could trust him not to pee on my bed, I would let him sleep with me. Since I can't trust that he won't potty on my bed, he has to sleep in the crate. I know that he doesn't have to go because he had ample opportunity to pee outside just a little while ago.

It's almost like when I was potty training my son. I'd put him down for a nap and he'd tell me that he had to pee. I was never sure if he actually had to go or if he was just trying to get out of bed.

I really can't take this. I'm such a sucker. Please send me some words of encouragement.

You can do it!

If you give in now, he will just learn that crying = attention. It might be a tough first few days, but in the long run he will realize that crying won't get him what he wants.

If you feel like you may need to take him out (wondering if maybe he does need to go), take him out for a couple minutes on a leash, no playing, no talking. If he goes, tell him "good boy" and then quietly bring him back in and put him in his crate.

I couldn't have said this better myself. Pups can really pull at your heart strings, but until he's potty trained consistency/routine is really important.

Shelby's crate is not in our bedroom so we would close our door and invested in some good earplugs. Shelby was very persistent. I think it was a few weeks before she stoped crying completely. Now she is only crated when we go to work and she is very eager to be crated. Just wait it out. Don't give in.

It's going better. There were only a few minutes of crying tonight. I put a pillow over my head and rode it out. You're right, I don't want to train him that crying means attention. He really is such a smart little guy. LOL
