Difference in K9 Advantix or Frontline Plus vs Cheaper flea meds?

Ive been fortunate enough to not have to use any flea/tick for over 2 years here...however yesterday that came to a crashing end as I noticed a flea on one of the dogs...Ive spent the last 24 hours doing 8 loads of laundry, bathing 6 dogs and vacuuming every inch of my house. Im not sure if it was a flea that just hopped on since I did not see any flea dirt or evidence of fleas on any of the dogs, but today the cats got treated (since who knows whats along for the ride on them:rolleyes2:) and all 6 dogs got treated with Frontline...we'll see how it goes. Im hoping that since they've never been treated it will work on the fleas and they arent super fleas that are immune to it!!

Hope everything works out fine. Keep us posted.

I don't know about the other two brands, but I use K9 Advantix because it handles ticks. I'm terrified of Lyme disease. I think the downside of K9 is that it does not deal with heartworm. And if you have cats, its a no-no as well.

But I use to be on flea and heartworm only. I think it was Sentinel.

My dogs have both been on it for a year, and no issues (reminds me....their dosage is overdue! Thanks for the reminder).

btw - I can't remember which brand, but there is a maker that it is DEFINITELY not recommended for Shelties.

Are there a lot ticks in Canada? I rarely hear about tick in Southern California. I don't think there are tick in the city Los Angeles. If you do ever remember the brand of flea med that are not recommended for Shelties please let use know. Thanks
