Do shelties cluck?

Is it a sheltie thing or a Melli thing? She makes a clucking noise usually when she is very close to me or husband. I assume it is something to do with smelling and she appears to be sniffing us but it also seems to be part of the working-the-cute up-close business usually accompanied by the hamster paws and puppy rooting noises she makes when she wants to be loved on. She does sleep belly up with 4 in the air too.

Just wondering of this clucking is a Melli thing or a sheltie thing.

Both Missy and my previous Sheltie are/were snorters. Missy snorts all the time.. not in a gross piggy way, but just out of excitement she does it. It's very weird and I don't think I've heard another dog do it. Previous Sheltie did it too. So maybe what you're describing as clucking is the same thing I call snorting? Not sure lol.

It's not a huff, it's not a sort, it's not a sigh, it is not tongue in cheek like typically done to a horse, and it is not tongue at teeth like tsk, tsk sound. It is definitely a cluck up in the nasal canal. If you take your tongue to the roof of your mouth and make a click/cluck/clock sound now imagine if you had a long snout the sound would deepen some and that would be it.

I will try to get video. She usually does it when you climb into bed. Dunno why.

Really odd.

Spitfire grumbles a lot , sometimes I call him grumble. Sca is quiet unless barking.

Mally grumbles, too. Mainly when it gets to be his dinner time (he can tell when it is time!) And he also grumbles when he has to go potty real bad, he will come and get me.

Koko snorts and huffs, but no clucks, Fillion nose whines and tries to "talk" but I don't think I would call it a cluck....

Emmy makes kind of a clicking/purring sound when she's really happy and wants some pets. Not sure if this is the same sound or not, but it sure is adorable!
